My latest finished project - a dog house

Built this the last couple days for my three puppy dogs. Two are brother/sister half Lab/half Great Pyrenees mix, the other is a GSD/something else mix. They've been digging up my wife's flowerbeds and then last Sunday, they dug up and killed my wife's favorite tree! Enough is enough, she wanted her gun and she was on the war path!

So, I got a good condition 40"x6' pallet out of my stack and went to work. Used mostly wood I already had in stock, the only real thing I had to buy was the horse stall rubber mat at $40 from the local TSC. The walls were made from left over material from the Bob Jones HS build over 15 years ago (I've had that stuff and moved it all that time!); finally got some good use for it besides shelves. I had to buy the roofing paper, but found 7 squares of roofing shingles in the attic so I used that for the roof.

Anyway, here are the pics, please let me know what you think. But be gentle, it was my first roofing job!

I and my wife disagree about letting dogs in the house. Her argument was that it is too cold in the winter. Therefore I made two insulated and heated dog houses with a trap door to keep them cozy inside. As you can already guess the dogs never slept in them. After about a years I put them by the road for somebody to take them. One of our neighbors took them and has luxury heated chicken coop condos.

That reminds me of what happened when I built my GSD Mickey (RIP) a really nice dog house. Insulated floor, roof and walls with new rug in it, heated too, and covered in metal siding. Of course when I was installing the rug he insisted on being in there with me but after that he never to my knowledge went inside.

Very nice. Gotta love using free materials.

My dogs love the house I built for them. Left over material from my parents build. The walls and roof are made of those roofing pannels that have 6" Styrofoam glued to osb. Then cedar sided with a metal roof. Nice bed of sraw and a flapper for the door to keep the wind out. I have poked my head in when its been really cold out and it stays toasty warm in there with the two of them.

Hopefully it was obvious to see, but there was no attempt to heat and/or insulate this dog house. It's designed to protect them from the wind and the rain and that's it. You can even see the gaps I made so I can, if I have to, clean it out by simply hosing it out.

The good news is that they are already starting to use it. It rained a couple times the day or so and we've seen them all in it laying on the thick rubber floor.

Inherited a doghouse when we bought the place 15 years ago. None of the dogs ever used it until this year. The Aussie, who is now 5 decided he kind of likes it...
