Early this morning a bobcat was walking along our porch in front of the window about 2 feet from me. I shooed him away and finally found my prize mouser (domestic cat "Gray2") cautiously coming out of the woods.

No cat food is left outside.

Question: Was he here to play with my cat or eat him?

Below is a picture I took of the bobcat a couple of weeks ago.

My guess would be the big cat will eliminate all competition for food it can.

Don, I've had strays dropped off a few times here over the years. One particular cat was living ok off the land prior to us living out here and one day I came and he had been brutally attacked. Don't know what it was that attacked him. I've heard that raccoons can do a number on cats. There are plenty of trees here for him to have climbed for safety so I'm guessing it wasn't dogs, coyotes or foxes.

Don, I remember riding with you in the cart and seeing that big black cat that I suspect was a jagurundi sp?...

Don, I suspect the bobcat is more interested in rodents and birds, but a small cat is also probably in danger. Has your mouser been fixed? Can you determine if the bobcat is male or female? Love is in the air. . . .:)

I just lost my second cat. The first one disapeared one day. It was too friendly and there were coyote tracks right next to the house, so I think they got the cat. The second one was allot meaner and was regularly killing things and leaving them at my back door. It showed up one day without an eye and it's guts hanging out of it's belly. I'm thinking it got into a fight with a racoon, but it could have been a bobcat or just about anything.

You can't stop the wild animals, and that bobcat is way too close to your house for comfort. I wouldn't worry about it being dangerous to humans, but wild animals need to be afraid of homes and keep their distance.

Jim, my mouser is a fixed male and the bobcat, I think, is a male because right before I took that picture he sprayed to make this his area. I don't know if females spray.

Eddie I agree.
After I shooed the bobcat he went around the house to the back. I walked to the back yard and he was by the gate about 40 feet from me before he decided to reluctantly, casually walk away. He is not scared of humans.

Here is a picture of my mouser intently following a gopher underground. On far right is part the gopher mound. He eats lots of gophers, voles, and mice.:licking:

I would keep my cat in my house until the bobcat went elsewhere.

Txdon,
What are the laws regarding shooting a bobcat in your area? If its not legal, can you harass him with an air gun until he decides your house is no longer fun to be around?

Make freinds with the bobcat he may end up being a better mouser :D
I've never heard of a bobcat attack on a domestic, but I'm sure it could happen if the circumstances were right. I'd just keep an eye on things, chances are he'll just do his thing and leave. Years ago my grandfather had a bobcat living in the twine barrel right next to the horses in the barn. Everyone got along fine except for when my dad stuck his hand in the barrel to get some twine  He pulled out a HUGE pile of....... mad kitty, good thing he had gloves on.
