I converted my naa to 12v with 12v coil & i also installed a points eliminator while i was at and after we got the tractor running we noticed that it had developed a miss. I changed out the old champion h10 and put in a set of al437 but it still has the miss, The only thing we have not checked is the timing..Could this be my problem?

More likely, it's the plug, plug wires, cap, or rotor.

Timing will affect all cylinders equally, so, instead of a miss, you'll get poor performance, poor fuel economy, or detonation from improperly set timing, but not a dead miss.

Try this:

Start the engine, and set it at a speed a little above idle.

Pull one plug wire at a time, noting any change in speed (it should slow down, and get rough). Replace the plug wire, and move to the next. The one that doesn't create a noticeable change in speed is the one that's causing the miss.

Now, evaluate the electrical components related to that one cylinder, starting at the plug, then the plug wire, then the distributor cap, then the rotor.

Fix, or replace, the bad part(s), and you should be back to plowin' before the sun gets too high.

I agree with the other poster.. a miss is a cyl not fireing.. that's not a timing issue. for the cyl to fire it needs fueal and air.. lets assume it has that. it also needs compression... .. and spark.

once you find the cyl, pull the plug and open the electrode to 3/16 air gap.. if it has spark.. do a compression test. not unknown to stick a valve in these old fords..

the 134ci red tiger engine is a good design.. went on to become the 172 and even a 192 ci version based ont he same block... was used from the naa starting in late 52 thru the 4 cyl thousand series till end of 64.

post back.

It turned out to be a bad cap and rotor. I didn't check it before because they were brand new from tractor supply. So i picked up a new cap and rotor from the new holland dealer and it has been running good. We didn't think it was timing either but we were just spit balling.

thanks for the help.

some of those tsc caps are finicky if you don't have the oem dust cover installed.
