Hey everyone just wanted to post some pics of my new garage built by Martin Metal. ( Mennonite Crew) first pic is land clearing and base for concrete. They actually poured the concrete last friday the 27th then on Friday the 3rd they came back and started framing the building, this is what a crew of 6 got done in about about 8 hrs work, Just totally floored me:thumbsup: Only thing left is windows, siding & trim, garage door, etc. Which they will finish on Monday. Quality work done quick. very exited about my tractors new home.

That is nice at a nice price. I am wanting one really bad but need a place to store house stuff as well as shop stuff before I can tear down what is standing so now the the 'shop' is on hold.

We are paying the same price as you for an 18x28 two story storage building like the model you see at Lowes/HD. The upside is I get a corner of it in the mean time and after I get 'my' shop I will not have to share it for 'house' stuff.:D

There is not driving access to where the storage building is going so it will not take up in space where I want to build a new shop. Another factor is the kids have always wanted a treehouse so they get some of the loft for their 'fun' space.

This winter when I am outside working on things I will be thinking about you in your nice new shop. :) Actually the wife deserves and needs the storage space so I am willing to wait.

I know you are going to enjoy that shop. Hope I can fine one that nice for $13,500 when we build. I see you have a frame building on a slab. Is there a reason you went with that over pole barn or steel building optioins?

I went with the post frame because of restrictions on our land. The building is supposed to match the house, Neighbors around here really did not care. I am glad that I went with the post frame over a pole building. The crew that built this even said that after a few years the poles would start to rot, and Im sure they know they build them everyday. Gale this crew travels and builds these buildings out of state also. They built one in Kansas the same week they poured my concrete might check them out here is their website Welcome to Martin Metal | Martin Metal, LLC — Metal Roofing, Post Frame Buildings, & Lumber, Versailles, MO its hard to beat them on price around here. what i liked about it is all I had to do is get the ground close to level.

Nothing wrong with conventional framing construction. Nothing at all.
It has a clean, finished look that I like. Your new building looks fantastic.

I had a ton of "re-cycled" or re-claimed 2 by boards from a tear out project. I mean a ton. When we built our mini barn this summer, we also framed it conventionally. Why not.

I am starting to see the advantage of a studded vs. pole walls. The Classic Manor Buildings storage building we are getting next week and delaying getting a shop for me is stud based and if a person desired to finish is out you could have a home/office/climate controlled shop. My FIL had swinging poles due to rot after about 30 years. Pole barns with them set about 4' deep are very stable and make a lot of sense when one wants/needs very high ceilings like in a 60'x120' barn. Steel is appealing too. It will be nice to not to have to tarp the tractors.

Late today we got started trimming the trees around the woods where the CMB is going up next week and I plan to start a thread with pics doing it with our JD 310B backhoe and the $100 electric pole saw from Lowes. For a hack mounting setup with what we could grab fast it is working out OK.

When it comes to building types I say anything that meets ones needs is fine. Since the CMB is going up about 12' from the house and the future shop/barn will be about 40' from the house we do have to be "style" aware.:D

Conventional stud framing "should" incorporate the use of PT plates. On the bottom, I double plated with pressure treated just to be sure. Some local codes call for it to be used. Couldn't really tell if the OP did or not.

Agree with the other posters who mentioned being "style" aware. Some local codes will call for that as well, down to matching siding/roofing with the house. In our area, we have more than few "pole barns" that are not pole barns at all, but framed buildings, complete with vinyl siding to match the house. Look darn nice. DiamondPilot who posts here on TBN, I believe, is an example.

As is my own 24x20 shop and my 20x24 mini-barn, with loft.

Congrats to the OP on an exceptionally nice shop building.
