Tractor
JD 4610 eHydro w/ 460 FEL, JD 3140 w/GB 660 FEL
For the last year I had wanted a good sized Deere with a cab for "cheap". Seems like all I could find were wore out rice tractors from La. Then this appeared on the Carthage tractor dealers lot. Took me about a week and $15k and shes now home in the SNOW - a rare event in these parts.

The cab is clean and the AC comp kicks on. I ran it last night and the heater will run you out. The FEL is a GB 660 which is worth around $7k on TH so the base unit cost me $8k:p - lotsa tractor for less than a buck a pound.

The 3140 is the euro version of the 2940. Its got the 97HP 6359-04 which sounds sooooo sweeeet:licking: the tach/hr meter works sorta and it shows 4100.
The SG2 (sound guard 2) cab only came out on the serial#s 43 and greater - this units sn starts with 46 so its and 82ish model. I'll be modifying the cab air intake so that I can control how much return air comes from the outside - it gets hot here and I bought the tractor to mow our 40+ acre pasture.

Its the "power sync" 16/8 with that cool "slapper" feature on the shifter for quick L/H in any gear- what a fun tranny. I just wish it was MFWD but still I'm happy - for now

Its a bit of a gamble old vs. new and I'll keep ya'll posted on how it works out
but compared to a new 6 series with similar specs its a steal. TH comps are all over the place but to me it best matches the 2940 for $35k:D

pictures attached of course -
any comments on getting old iron and planning on putting 50 to 100 hrs/year on it - am I crazy:confused2:

GOD bless TBN:thumbsup:

The thing I had not considered was with no load and 100 ponies you can darn near idle down the road in any gear. NEVER did i expect to like the ride and tranny - an ehydro tends to spoil one.

Looks like you got a super buy. Maybe because it's a Euro edition and most people don't know what it is. I wonder how Euro tractors end up so far from home.

Have you had a dealer run the serial to see where it was first sold? I am not sure that can be done with Euro tractors.

Thanks guys:drink:

In these parts its' called a "Trueloc" after a gent by that name - if in you head towards Henderson from Carthage he is on the left - cant miss the old iron

I digress

He imported (imports?) these - we are not far from the Houston dock. Word is they were going for low bucks across the pond due to emissions issues - so bring it to TX! at any rate he would clean em up and add the loader.
Around here they call it "one of them bug-eyes"

So far I've not found a thing wrong with it - cant wait for my manual to arrive.

Did a search of fuel usage and found the Neb. test as well as a cool study from U of Tehran - check it out these things are really efficent and do as well as the 4cyl modern 6 series!! still 5 gal/hr wowzer!:confused2:

Been really blessed by two new Deere's since 12/22 - and here they are meeting each other (hate to say it but the gator really wishes she had AC:laughing:)

As promised I'm going to keep all ya'all updated. I took a chance and bought and old BIG tractor as my 2nd. I'll highlight the good and bad. Somebody else out there maybe thinking of doing the same thing.

Got to finally work the old girl just a tad yesterday and a bit over the weekend.

Attached my OSHA compliant platform to the FEL on Saturday and WOW this thing really reaches out there. On the first lane-pine we trimmed I kept telling #1 son who was driving to come up, come up - heck were'nt to much left of it when I got done. Guess I'd have to measure but my feet can prolly get to 12' or better off the ground with this baby.

GOOD POINT - lots o reach with the FEL

Yesterday I hooked up to the old Howse 10HD (10' hog with two spindles)

BAD POINT - the draft link adjustment is not working so it was a bit of a pain to hook up
Good points - it was mid 70s' and a bit humid and by the time I man-handled the draft link arm to get side-to-side level ole interlaux was sweating. THE AC WORKS:)

Ran the 10' for a few passes as I had not PM'ed it yet so just wanted to see how it was.

GOOD POINT - with the cab windows closed,AC on and some jazz coming out of the radio it like mowing in heaven.
BAD POINT - the clutch cylinder leaks bad and gears started grinding.
BAD POINT - now I want a 20' batwing.

usually do not post without pics but I've been bowed up like a can of cut worms
