New bucket teeth.

Total cost for 8 of them delivered was $78 and some change.

Cutting edge was easy to drill for the front hole.

But the back hole fell right at where the cutting edge was welded to the 1/8 or 3/16 bucket steel. Getting through the bucket steel was easy, but once it hit the cutting edge directly under the weld....it was really hard. Couldn't drill it.

So I had to heat the area up to a dull red with the torches and let it slow cool and ten I could drill and tap them. But trying to drill throught the un-even weld left a few holes off just a tad, that is why the teeth arent perfectally straight. But that won't make it any less effective:thumbsup:

Now I just cant wait to try them out:D

I like what you did. I take it the hardware didn't come with the teeth? What did you use and please report your digging results

No the hardware didnt come with. I used 1/2-20 FHCS (flat-head cap screws). Mainly because it is what I had. I was going to countersink them, but as you can see, there is really no need to as they are well recessed anyway. If I ever have to replace bolts and I run out of my stock of the FHCS, I will go to button heads.

I wont know how it digs for a couple of months when dad starts his digging for a basement for a house. But I am sure it will be better than what it was. It also looks like it will be better for pushing brush out of the fields and into piles when we clear fencerows:thumbsup:

Nothing wrong with snaggle toothed tractor equipment. I'm sure your toothbar will dig just as nicely as the ones created by orthodontists.

I was looking at my grapple yesterday and realize it too has developed somewhat of a snaggle toothed appearance too after five or six years of heavy service. Works just as well as ever.

(By the way, I finally got to use the new Dolmar 420 you suggested. Great chainsaw. Took it out of the box, put the bar and chain on, filled the fluids, followed starting directions and it started on the first pull. Cuts like a Tea Party Freshman! :D Very nice machine).

Congrats on the saw.

If it is anything like the 350, it is as smooth as butter. Not the most powerful saw, but the anti-vibes are just awesome:thumbsup: Glad you went with the dolmar.:D

Great saw. I'm happy I took your advice. Of course that was before I knew you were a dog shooting madman!!!:D:D:D

I have never shot a dog in my life. But would if it was in self defense.
To each his own opinion though:thumbsup:

Just teasing in referencing the somewhat overheated doberman thread. I understand your point.

Bobcat Bucket Teeth

This place was the cheapest I could find. I did find another place that had a much larger selection of bolt on but prices were $12 ea up to $25ea plus.

This company was out of PA, had them in stock. Ordered on a tuesday morning and delivered on a thursday:thumbsup:

We'll see how I like them. But if It turns out that I never take them off, I will get weld on ones next time. Bolting them on took longer than It should have.

Those teeth look great. The only problem I can see with them is that sometimes it's better to not have the teeth on.
I have the bolt on kind and they work great but when I want to back blade they're a problem.
I hope yours meet you needs and you have good use of them.:)

I rarley have a time when I use the bucket to back drag. I use the 3ph blade for anytime I may need to do work like that.

And I decided that for saving ~$250 over the cost of the toothbar, I can live with having to remove 16 bolts instead of two. And in all reality, with the impact, I can have all of the teeth off and 16 shorter bolts back in (to protect the threads in the holes) in all of ~5 minuts if that.

But the big thing for me was NOT blocking my fork pockets in the corners of the bucket. The pictures show the short peices in there to prevent them from packing with dirt. I have longer ones that stick out ~22" for lifting logs and to be sawed up and other things:thumbsup: I would have had to totally redesign it with a tooth bar.

Instead of removing all the teeth to back drag, why not just fabricate or adapt an extra bucket edge insert so it can be attached to the back of the row of teeth? As the teeth will support it during backdragging it really shouldn't be complicated to rig a removable linkage to the bucket.

Hey, no hard feelings. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Thats what makes this country great:thumbsup:

So hows come no photos of that new saw, or pics of you running it????

Great Idea. I may put some thought into that, bit I dont see it ever being an issue with having a back blade as well.

Pictures of the saw I can manage. Pictures of it in use could be tough as I work alone. Might require one of those "here, hold my beer while I do this" moments and that would upset the safety police even though I wear kevlar chaps and proper head gear!

good point:thumbsup:

It is also NOT good to drink while running a chainsaw.

Even though the hole in the top of the can/bottle is pretty small, you'd be suprised at just how much sawdust can find its way in there:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Sawdust poisioning is really BAD

Another good idea...bookmarked!

LD...It looks like you can back drag with the teeth on and not leave any toothmarks. Kinda like a flat tooth bar. Is that right?

Cutting edge was easy to drill for the front hole.

What did you use to drill the cutting edge? I want to drill through mine to use for a bolt-on edge underneath the original. Step drill?
