I was looking at skidsteers on craigslist and ran across a ad that was out of place for a Schulte XH600 rotary cutter that was stated to be in good working condition for $650. I already have a Landpride RCR2672 which I work very hard at times and have worried that if I break it I would have no back up cutter to carry my tractor business forward until parts could be obtained.
The Schulte cutter comes with 160 hp gearbox and it is advertised to cut 4", it also has double safety chains standard which is good cutting in areas where discharge could be a problem. Anyway I contacted the guy and asked a few questions as to condition and decided to go take a look. It was 145 miles away but if it checked out I knew it would be a good buy after doing my research. It has surface rust on rear of cutter but not bad and paint will renew my investment, the 7gauge steel deck had no bad rust. The underside of the cutter was in good shape exception of blades needing to be replaced. The gearbox turned easily and had no signs of leakage, and was full of oil, the driveshaft was in good shape with the guards intact, all metal was in good condition with no bends.
Come to find out it was a state cutter and they had bought 6 at auction and this was the last one, the others he had sold for $950 and was selling the last one cheaper to be done with his investment, I was going to talk the guy down but after looking at it I was happy to give him the full price.
Now I have some cosmetic work to do but ended up with a cutter that hopefully will be more of a workhorse than my original cutter. I will post some pics as I clean up and repaint it.
