Two queries...I looked at the specs for the Idea Center desktop and was wondering two things?

What is Intel HD graphics 2000....is it a dedicated video card or integrated?

How many watts is the OEM power supply?

You didn't mention which model number but most are integrated now. Unless you are a gamer then that's usually enough. No clue on the power supply with no model number. I did find this: Intelョ HD Graphics 2000 delivers casual mainstream gaming capabilities without an additional graphics card or chip.

Thanks, computer hardware fascinates me. I have upgraded both our desktops with a dedicated video card and bigger PS and whenever I read about a newer machine I always have to know what specs it has. Makes me envious at how much memory and storage a buyer can get today for so much less money !!!

True enough but the dynamic has changed quite a bit. You used to have to worry about power supply sizing more because you had to add things like video cards, sound cards, network cards, modems and the like to get it to do what you want. Now most everything is built in. I don't miss the days of messing with IRQ's to get a card to work.

Neither do I...still nice to know how to do it though.

I build and upgrade my own PCs. You might save some money, but I do it mostly so I can get the components I want. I don't buy the latest and greatest video or sound cards though...normally one or two generations back...save a lot of money there and still get very high end graphics and sound.
I must admit though...onboard sound and graphics on Motherboards has come a long way!

OK you old farts, how many of you had the joy of converting a deck of univac 90 column punched cards, round holes, to IBM Hollerith 80 column rectangular chad punch cards?

I admit, you got me there John.:) Now, can you tell us what the acronym UNIVAC stands for? It turned out to be a name that made more sense for IBM than for Sperry-Univac. BTW: There are guys out there who say that if you never worked on an analog computer, you're just a digit-twidget. ;)

Will you stop with your comments. All those memories.
The 5" 54 gun mounts on the ship I was on used a analog computer that I helped with from time to time. The ship's gyros that fed input to the analog computer was a whole nother kettle of fish. ;)

That was probably the MK-1A computer (Called the "Mark One-Able Fire Control Computer") for the 5" 54 cal guns. You remembered the MK-152, but the first ship I was on, USS Leahy DLG-16, had the MK-119 analog computers for the Terrier Missiles. I think the person who first said, "If it works, don't mess with it!" was looking at that computer when he said it. We had an IC chief who came aboard and told the Fire Control tech that he could align the computer perfectly. He then proceeded to zero out all the synchros and resolvers. That darn computer was worthless after he finished and we had to cross-connect over to the other computer for about 6 months until we went into the shipyards for the upgrade to the MK-152. It turns out that the problem had been in the ships gyro-compass. The IC chief was in charge of the gyro-compass and didn't want to admit that it could be at fault. When he messed up the computer, he became a joke onboard the ship and they mercifully transferred him before the ship came out of the shipyards. He was a nice guy otherwise, but he really screwed up when he messed with something he had no training for. There's probably a good lesson in there somewhere.;)

Yeah, I know and have done all that stuff but I don't want to do it any more. All I want to do is use them. I keep telling myself "this is the last computer I will ever buy". Just like I keep saying "that was the last attachment I will ever buy for the tractor", 2008 we bought a new tractor:confused2:

At least the tech on implements doesn't change every 6 months:laughing:

For you Intel guy's, have any thoughts or opinions on the new Sandy Bridge? I haven't really looked at the Bulldozer and now there's talk about the Ivy bridge.

I'm thinking of building one for myself on the Sandy Bridge Like the 5i 2500k processor (without hyper threading) seems from the reviews it has been a real winner for Intel and proven pretty stable.
