Hi everyone. I purchased a new, 2014 model, NorTrac 25 XT in July from Northern Tool in Minnesota. It was shipped to me on an open trailer pulled by a pick-up truck and arrived in California in good condition.
I ordered it with the front end loader and a 5 ft. box blade. Northern installed the blade on the tractor. I had a minor problem after about an hour of run time. The hydraulic control valve for the FEL started leaking, not from any hose connection but from a cylinder attached to the valve. I called Northern and they sent me out a new valve. I thought it was really going to be a big job to replace it but it was not too difficult. The only other problems so far are the splitting of the rubber boots on the 3 point hitch shifter levers and the FEL hydraulic control valve, all covered under warranty.
I have added a top & tilt kit from FitRite Hydraulics for the 3 pt. hitch so I don't have to jump off the tractor to make any adjustments while scraping. I also added Pats Quick Hitch to make hooking up easy. Last week I purchased the Woodmaxx WM-8M wood chipper and just finished doing three hours of chipping. Both the tractor and and the chipper ran beautifully. The largest branch I chipped (just to see if the tractor could handle it) was 5 inches in diameter. The tractor did not even slow down. The tractor has only 23 hours on it now and has been perfect mechanically. I changed all fluids except anti-freeze at about 15 hours.
When I got the chipper I had to use the tractor to lift it off the trailer that the shipping company loaded it onto for me. The chipper with its steel crate and two wood pallets weighed about 1050 lbs. With a chain attached to the FEL the tractor lifted it easily. It also held the chipper in the air using a lifting strap when I did a part of the assembly that required the chipper to be off the ground.
Northern Tool provides excellent warranty service and Bob at Northern answers all your tractor questions and usually answers the phone himself. I am very satisfied with this machine and the service after the sale.
