So I just took possession of my new J2023 today. First thing, I have to say thanks to Magee Equipment in Poplar Bluff. I was only able to get to the dealer today (Sunday) and the dealership is normally closed. However, the owner gave me his personal cell phone number and I texted him and he said he would come down to the shop on his day off so that I could pay and pick up my new tractor. I thought that was a pretty stand-up thing to do. After paying for my tractor, the owner gave me some cash back and told me use it to fill the tractor up with fuel since it just came in two days before. He said he always sends his tractors out with a full tank of fuel. So I loaded it up and headed home (I had to stop by some friends' and familys' houses on the way home to show off).
The first thing I notice about these tractors is the fit and finish. They are very nicely made! Nothing cheap or cheesy looking for feeling on the tractor. It is really a SHARP looking little tractor! It looks better in person than the photos. The tractor fires up quickly and runs smooth and quiet. The loader operates nicely, even at idle speed. The platform is noticeably more roomy compared to my previous John Deere 750. I'm 6'1" and I can easily get up and down from the platform. The seat is adjustable which is nice. I was able to rack the seat back so that my right foot was in the perfect spot for the DUAL hydro pedals. None of this rocker/treadle pedal stuff on the J2023 model. MUCH more comfortable and natural feeling to me. The controls are laid out nicely. The left fender has 2wd/4wd selector along with the Hi/Lo range selector. The right fender has the PTO knob, 3pt lever, and PTO selector for rear, mid/rear, and mid only PTO engagements.
My driveway needed immediate attention, so I hooked up my grader blade and went to work. It took me a while to get used to the 3pt lever since I was used to position control on my previous tractor. I also had to do some adjustment on how fast the 3pt dropped. But after a few passes, it felt like second nature. One thing I did notice is that this tractor seems to pull more easily than my John Deere 750. My LS could pull a blade full of gravel at 1500 rpms without any problems, while my 750 needed to run about 2000 rpms.
Then I did some very minor bucket work pushing some piles of dead limbs and stuff together to be burned. This is where I found the only thing I need to change about the tractor. I'll be filling my rear tires with fluid soon. I lost traction pretty easily when trying to push the brush piles together. The ground was soft and I think that had a lot to do with it, but my tires glazed over pretty quickly. I need some more weight to help give me some tractor, even in 4wd.
But needless to say, I'm very happy with my little tractor. I put 2 hours on it this afternoon playing and I'm looking forward to many more! And here are some "un-trailering" photos for your enjoyment. And here's a link to short "walk-around" video I posted on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRpGDcxu-MU
