I picked up my 54 blade and quick hitch for my X740 today. It's a slightly used unit I got it on eBay for $745.

I got the control valve from www.aux-hyd.com. It was cheaper than Deere's and I like the quarter turn to open and close as opposed to 6 turns. But I had to use a screwdriver and remove the handle to get it to thread on because it was interfering. Other than that, it's working great!

I have a couple of 5 gallon buckets with cement in them for weight. Just have to make a platform to attach to the rear frame to put them on.

Need a rubber edge , you will love it . Takes away those OH SHEET moments when you hit an obstacle .

Nice blade. Go to Tire Chains by TireChains.com and get you a pair of good rear tire chains. They'll do more than all the ballast weight you can pile on the back of the tractor.

I have an X740 as well and I have a suggestion for you.

Switch out your turf tires for HDAP, otherwise known as Carlisle HD Field Trax. Do not order the HDAP's from John Deere, they are very overpriced. They use the Carlisle HD Field Trax, so just find a Carlisle dealer and order those. They offer much greater traction while not damaging the lawn in the summer time.

You landed a great deal. I could not find a used QH or 54'' blade in my area so I had to buy new. I paid double what you did for all new!

It took me since I bought the X740 in the fall to find one, and I had to drive 230 miles one way to get it. Well worth it I think.

I cut off the zip ties the previous owner had on them and was able to route the hoses through the hose guides like they should be. Much happier now.

Thought I was going to get to use the blade tonight. Snowed like crazy at work and at my dad's. I came home to nothing. I did have to get it out anyways. The stock headlights are awesome though:

I am definately thinking about putting a piece of rubber between the wear bar and the blade though. We are supposed to get some more snow tomorrow. So I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I've read that horse mats cut into strips make great snow squeegies.
