The horse mat is what I've been reading a bunch about. Might have to give it a try. Our local Tractor Supply has them for $5 off right now.

When you put the horse mat on, what does that help? I use just the wear strip so the blade scraps up all the packed snow. If I put a wear strip the horse mat and another wearstrip it would prolly make the blade last longer. I am just thinking if you bolt a wear strip to the front of the horse mat with nothing to support the horse mat wouldn't the mat just roll under the moldboard of the plow?

From my understanding, the horse mat is like 3/4" thick. So if you don't make it too long, it can still be pretty stiff. But flexible enough to act like a squeege. It's better for asphalt and concrete driveways I think. When I do mine, I might use wing nuts on the bolts so I can take it off quicker if I want to use just the wear bar if I have ice.

Artillian is now offering a rubber edge for a great price, as well as side wings: 54 Plow Products

Hard to beat "ready to wear". Bu I can get a whole mat for that, and get 5 or 6 pieces out of it.

I am going to pick up a mat tomorrow at Tractor Supply. We did get some snow, not a lot though. Here's a pic:

My driveway is fairly level til it slopes up to the road. I don't have any chains yet but I do have about 160# of extra weight on the back:

Cost me about $45 and is equal to 4 suitcase weights. Works well.

Our TSC has mat material in various thickness' in rolls that you can buy by the foot. Starts out at about 3/8" as I recall.
