What is the oil pressure supposed to be on a 4000 4 cyl. at idle and high rpm?

i'd expect an average 172ci red tiger 4 cyl to make at least 30 psi at hot idle, and 45 at hot throttle.

I'd expect a good one to make 40 idle and 55 at throttle.

I have a couple rattly beaters that make 25 at idle and 40 at throttle.. and I think it would be hard to find a couple with more wear than those 2 of mine that are in that range..
ps.. 25 psi oil pressure is mor e than fine. while not fantastic.. if you can maintain about 7psi of pressure per 1k rpm.. you are preventing parts from baning on each other too much.

SG mine at idle is just above 0 and high is about 20, think I'm going to drop the pan and check bearing, but I going to change oil and filter first, heck I might just have a bad gauge, really haven't had time to check it out been trying to get our JD tractor and baler ready

always check the guage first.

I can't tell you how many tractors I've seen gain 20-50 psi oil pressure after a gauge change. I keep a calibrated test gauge on a short hose I use to test machines wehn I get them.

my 951 is kind alike that. enghine sounds good.. has plenty of hours on it.. i run 15w40 in mine all the time. it's a good lawnmower. last year I had it reclaiming some underbrush that was 7' tall.. i had to stand on the running boards to see. steering has gotten sloppy again. single piece pedistal steering parts are too hard to come by.. need new front end for it.

These old tractors never cease to amaze me with what they are capable of. My 4000 will celebrate it's Golden Jubilee this year and it's ready for a full days work. I very seriously doubt modern tractors will be around to celebrate a 20 year birthday let alone 50.

Not sure of the hours on mine as the PM isn't original - Neither is the oil pressure gauge which would not surprise me if it was off. Looks very cheap. Tractor runs and starts good. Haven't used it a whole lot but oil level doesn't drop. It smokes just a puff after sitting for a while which makes me suspect valve seals. Like all good row crops, the power steering ram leaks like that was its job - Marks it's territory every where I park it. Bought it to restore and higher priority projects just keeps pushing it away. Have collected all the parts I'll need - It's just a matter of getting after it.

Last year, I had a line on the whole front pedestal for cheap but couldn't talk the guy into palletizing it for me to ship. Didn't really need it but to use my wife's favorite expression "But it was cheap" - It would have done me a lot of good to be able to pass it on to you.

I finally got a chance to change filer and oil today, man that made a big difference, high idle 50 lbs. the filter I took off must have been the original filter or at least it looked like it,lol.

that 950.. heck? 951? is made out of sooo many tractors.. hard to say what it really is. i guess the trans is a 950 everything else is a mutt. I bought a hug box of parts off rick B's diesel 861 and transplanted those. I went thrut he front end one time and bugger-rigged much of ther stuff and seals... stuf was near wore out then.. and it's gotten loose again... I pumped it full of #2 gun grease and just don't run it on the road.. if I cut real close to a fence.. I just go slow on the first pass as there is about 1/4 turn play in the steering at the front pedistal...
