Well after doing some shopping I've desided to make my own rear grader blade.
Now I need to find the material to make it. It took me about 4 weeks to get everything I needed to start doing some sub assembly. So far I.ve cut the lift saports for the 3 point hitch, And made a jig to help a line all the parts.
The attacment shows the lift frame before welding. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

So on to the next step. And that was to find something to make the rear blade of.
Just so happens that i came across some 1/4 inch cold roll.
Had it sheared to 15" x 60". And then bent on bolt sides to 30 degress. This in turn gave me a height of 14".
This picture shows it with the rear sapports bolted on.

Now that I have the Lift ready for welding and the blade ready to be installed.
So after about a hour of welding and a few more minutes to grinding. I'm ready to do a trial fit. And here is what that looks like.

All in all it was a fun project to do. I will get some new holland blue Paint and dress it up when we get some warmer weather here.
Now I'm shopping for my next project. Maybe a tooth bar or a boom pole. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Started on my rear blade today! I'm using 3 and 3 1/2 inch pipe for the frame. One fits inside the other beautifully so I can swing her around 180 degrees.2 inch tube for the main body back from the 3 pt.While running my route thursday,I found two pieces if 3/8" plate about 20 X 30" laying in the road!!! Looks to be torched from a water tank...love the freebies!!Great for the blade when I figure out how to bend it.Think I'll wrap it in chain and use my floor jack.It will tilt about 5 degrees each way from horizontal.Tilt forward maybe 15 deg.Waiting for the cylinder to control angle.Alas...I can see I have to rework the mount because it doesn't lift high enough....see my signiture... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

opps forgot to give you some spec's
the lift pins are mounted to 1/2" cold roll, these blocks a welded to 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 3/8" thick Angle iron. the down sapports are 1/4 x 4" flat stock. This is attached to the 1 1/2 x 3" dubble walled tub.
The blade is 1/4" x 15" x 60" with a piece of C-channel bolted on. Using lift pins for the top and bottom pivet points.
The Blade will turn 360 degess and will tilt up to 45 degress.
the top index block is 1/2" thick plate that gives me 5 positions front and 5 back. these positins are 0 degess, 23 degess, and 45 degress.
As for the total weight I'll make a guess of 200 to 250 lbs. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Neat project Bob_K. Looks like a great job to me. It would be interesting to see a close up of the blade pivot.

I am interested in building some projects as well.

Would you care to share your experiences and approaches on aquiring the materials and the outside work you had done?

What about cost? Are you finding good deals or having to pay today's steel prices?

Thanks.

Per your request Whiterock. Here is a picture of the pivot points.
As for the Cost not to bad Most of the items where drop off material or scrap item laying around.
I do think after I add the Paint total cost around $50 to $60
Did the primer tonight and I will post a finail piture after I get done with the Paint job. In a day or Two... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks Bob_k. Well you sure have a good eye for materials. I am trying, but I have about decided its like hunting. I was never a good hunter. I didn't seem to have that trained eye.

I am working on it though. I am finding it pretty amazing what folks throw away. In some cases I guess it makes sense, it's just not cost effective to use every little piece of scrap in a business. Just wish I could get more scrap for my projects. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Neat work! Thanks.
