My Pond Clearing

I thought I would share my current land cleaning with you guys.

I am sure you all know how it is working on a building project to a budget - something "extra" is needed and there is no money to finish off. Well, the previous occupants of this house obviously had that problem - and their solution was to dump all the rubbish in the pond, rather than hiring a skip.

So, having dug out the pond, my job is now to clean the spoil of the rubbish. Having read all the posts on soil screens, I was tempted to build one, but in the end opted for a screening bucket for the digger - not least because it will take little space to store once I have finished.

So, for an idea of how it works:

1. Load the bucket half full - the contents need to be able to move around - too full and they will jump over the sides and not be screened.

2. Swing the bucket over the trailer.

3. Give the bucket a shake.

4. Bucket then contains just the rubbish too big to fit through screen

The screen is interchangeable - this is the 2 inch screen - I have a 1 inch screen as well (and a solid back just for digging). The bucket is 30 inches wide and I recon I can screen about a ton or so of still moist and sticky clay based soil to fill the trailer in about 10 to 15 minutes.

I also have a big pile or hardcore!

Interesting solution to your problem. It does seem very time consuming, but it also looks like it works.

How big is the pond and how much of this do you hae to dig through?
