Joel asked for it, so here it is from twisting my rubber arm.

Pictured are three stages of my ongoing house project. The third stage in photos #3 and #4 is my biggest expansion of approximately 3200 square feet which I completed the exterior last summer. Interior work and landscaping is proceding this year.

The only subcontractors I use are concrete finishers, roofers, and plasters. While it's hit or miss getting a good one, those are three things I cannot do very well myself. All structure and exterior siding/trim is done with screws.

What is everyone else working on this year?

Jon

Jon,

Great looking house. I absolutely love all the angles, pitches and changes in your roof. Or should I say roofs? LOL You have so much detail and interest in your home that it's very unique and fun to look at.

Thanks for sharing.

WOW, amazing house, amazing what someone can do with the know how, experience and tools. Awsome progression pictures. Thanks for sharing.

I build a shed from a kit last year, I've got it three quarters painted, does that count ? :)

Thanks for the post, really amazing work!!!

Jon,

Any snow left on the 'rock'?

This spring/summer I will be building an implement shed 10'x20' to store all the attachments plus we will be fencing another 5-6 acres with 4"x4"x8' posts and 1"x6"x16' rails.
The fence has three rails. Also we will be doing the final touches on our horse barn and generally cleaning of property - time to get rid of 16+ years of collecting stuff!

The field beyond the distant fence will be completed.

I only sub out what I can not do - concrete, electrical etc. or if I want it finished quickly.

cheers,

lloyd

Jon,
Nice work ! I don't have anything to compare to that, but I do have a project I'm working on. About four years ago my wife and I bought a house at an estate auction. It had been empty for about five years as the elderly widow had to be placed in assisted living. During those years, pipes froze and burst...... and the neighborhood kids weren't very kind, throwing rocks through the windows and screens on the porch. Even before that, not too much had been done to it in the past fifty years. Built in 1888, and rough but very original, it was exactly what we were looking for. Well, what 'I' was looking for. My wife is not nuts about living in a construction zone. It even still had the original two holer outhouse in the corner of the barn. Couples must have been really close a hundred years ago ! I've got alot planned for this summer, and hope to get the original shutters rebuilt and put back in place (along with 100 other chores). We've got a few rooms done, and a buch yet to be done...... I hope to start on the kitchen this year also. There was alot to love about the house.... like peeling up the ugly linoleum crap on the floors revealed beautiful original wide pine floors. I'll include a few before and after pictures. Unfortunately, no, we no longer have the 63 Suburban :(.

Thanks everyone for your compliments; they are really appreciated.

Ductape, that house looks wonderful. My wife and I noticed several details which clearly took a lot of time. You should watch the movie "The Money Pit" sometime.

Lloyd, we had an easy winter because I bought the rear mount snow blower and blade, thus very little snow. We actually are having a spring this year, about 6 weeks early. Glad to hear I'm not the only one needing an attachment shed.

Sodamo, that's a very, very nice looking pool. In some ways, I consider myself lucky that such a thing is not very practical here, as I would be emptying my bank account trying to build one.

Eddie, Joel, you would be interested in this house I was told about after I completed mine. It's eerily similar:

The House of the Seven Gables

What's everyone else working on?

You must be good with geometry to build a house like that! ....My main project for the past 1-1/2 yrs has been building my garage. It's a 40x36 with 12ft ceilings. I've been building it out of my pocket so it's taking a while to finish. I've basically done everything BY MYSELF. I hired out the excavating because it was basically solid rock behind the dirt on the hillside it's built into. I did have help pouring the foorters core filling the blocks pouring the concrete floor, setting the trusses, putting the long sheets of metal on my roof (did the shorter 19 footers by myself), a little help laying the blocks, and a little help putting the osb on the walls. Its been quite the project for me. I don't have any recent pics, but I have most of the siding on, and the interior is wired, and insulated with osb on the walls painted white. It's almost done, the most expensive part I have left is putting metal on the ceiling and blowing insulation on top of it. I just got my new Kioti about a month ago, and it sure would have helped if I had it during the whole process!

Thanks for the nice comments. Here are some pics I took this morning from the opposite view. Wife and I have been building this house (owner-builder) for last 3 years - what a project. Even though we passed final inspection with the county last May, we still are not finished. Still lots of trim work, all the cabinet doors, drawers, and pullouts, plus some more cabinets and shelves. We started the pool last Oct and it has taken way longer than planned, mostly due to extremely rainy winter which hampered the ground work and the concrete pours. The pool itself is a kit (poolkits.com) which my wife and I put together. The electrician (must have licensed guy for the permit here) says he will be done this next week. Once we pass electrical inspection we can hook up the pumps, filter, etc. We are totally off grid, so will be attempting a balance of normal 240VAC pumps powered by inverter/generator with 48VDC pump powered from the solar charged battery bank.
The house itself is our own design and we did it all except the slab work, electrical, and plumbing. I did hire some laborer help for the heavy stuff. My Kioti CK30 has been a valuable workhorse, involved in most phases, including a lot of the pool work alongside my neighbors loader/backhoe. As you can see from the last pic, it still has chores to do.

David
