My battery on my cub 2150 was dead so I jumped it and now the PTO will not engaged. Should there be a wire on the negative side on the battery and one on the postive side? Help Please!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

There probably isn't enough voltage available to engage the PTO. You need to fully charge the battery and then try it. Also the alternator might not be putting out enough to charge the battery. You need a voltmeter to check the battery voltage with the engine running. It should be over 13 volts.

Yes, you should have a battery cable on each side of the battery. Is one missing?

Hey Fischer,

Give it a good overnight charge and see what happens. If the battery can't start the tractor, it may not be able to generate enough current to pull in the PTO.

Keep us posted.

On mine (2042), the hour meter shows the battery voltage for a few seconds before it changes over to hours. I find this is handy for checking the status of the battery.

As far as the wiring goes, mine has a small green wire w/ the large black cable, and a small red wire with the large red cable. I'm not sure, but I don't think you would have knocked a wire off by jumpstarting it.

Crank it up to full throttle. It should have enough voltage to engage the PTO unless there's something wrong with the alternator. Also, check the fuses under the hood - there are three that I know of.

I have a LT1042 with a similar problem. The only difference is my PTO will engage only temporarily (about a couple of seconds) then, disengage. I only have 17 hours of operations on this new mower. This started immediately after the mower choked up because of too high of grass. Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

two wires to pto one should be hot when key is on the other should
be hot when pto switch is pulled and key switch is on if this is so and
battery voltage is good try running a wire from ground to pto and see if it will engage

I had a fuseholder on an 1862 that had corroded to the point it wouldn't let the PTO stay engaged. I replaced the fuseholder and fuse and it worked fine. Maybe try pulling the fuses and look for corrosion?

Good luck,
Curt
