I saw a number of posts on this when I was looking a few months back. Finally got pictures up here to show what I slapped together. Just used stuff I had sitting around already, so cost was $0

I don't have a before picture of the pile, but you can see the amount of rocks that were sifted out. Going by volume, from the 20-30 yards I've sifted so far, I would guess it is about 1/4-1/3 rock that gets sifted.

Wire used was a 2x4 welded wire fencing. That wasn't small enough, so I put a 2x2" over the top of that. In the area I dump the bucket, the smaller screen sifts well. Towards the back 1' or so, it is just the 2x4" screen, so a few small rocks drop through with the larger clods of dirt.

Angle is 45, height almost 7' and width almost 7'. Wanted to make it easy to scoop out the good stuff.

Here it is middle of may, and firt screen post I have seen, kinda surprised about that!

Looks good, any design is fine, as long as it is working for you. And $0 is even better!

Yeah, works fine. Don't like it when the wind changes directions though.

Great idea jpav!
My mind is too complicated. I envisioned building a horizontal screen with an engine to shake and sort the material. Your idea lets gravity do the work. After using it, would you change the angle any, or leave it at 45 degrees?

Thanks

I like it! Simple and effective.

Didn't change the angle, at least not on the wood frame. I filled up the back side with rocks and then were spilling through the little slat I still have at the top of that 'wall'. So, went and moved it a bit, and when I put it back down, the legs on the lower side sat a little higher. So, maybe 40 degrees. It was amazing how much more it got clogged up, and how much more rock fell through. Only a bucket or two like that, and moved it again.

Made me think to try more angle, so I did, but that didn't help more than original, just was less steady as I had the high side proped up on some rocks.
