I have an old 80's model Sears Garden Tractor A GT `16 I think it is that my dad bought from a friend for me and my brother when I was around 11 years old. "I'm 25 now"
I had plans to scrap it but decided to keep it as I really needed a front end loader and this tractor was just right for adapting a small front end loader too.
I already used it today to move the frame to my homemade backhoe. I tore the backhoe down to use the hydraulic parts for the loader as a loader was needed more right now.
I thought it would tip without weight in the back when I lifted that frame but it didn't. It's a bit hard to steer. But not that bad.
I took some spindles with hubs and welded them to the factory spindles on the tractor so now it has hubs with bearings to help with the stress from the loader.
I had to tear the carb down on the briggs opposed twin engine that's on it and soak it in chem dip because it was only running on full choke and only when my finger was over the hole. Couldn't drive it that way. That'd be kinda hard having to lean over with my finger stuck over the hole on the carb choke butterfly to keep it running.
After soaking the carb yesterday and blowing out the tiny holes in the carb it now starts and runs without being choked.
It was such a joy to fire that thing up and drive that thing again after around 6 almost 7 years of it sitting in the yard.
I sooooooooooooooo missed driving it.
And now that it has a fully functioning loader on it I'll enjoy it even more. Next up is sand it down and repaint it.
The loader arms are factory made loader arms "Brand is Pony Loader" I think made in the 50's by the tag on it. A friend gave them to me.
I got lucky and found some channel iron on the road in front of our shop. Someone lost it and never came back for it. I think they were hauling it for scrap.
I used the channel iron to mount the loader arms too. I welded a piece of channel iron under the tractor to the frame and then used a piece of channel iron on each side to mount the loader arms too.
It works great I still need to add some support braces to it sometime. But for now it's fine.
I'll be sure to get some pics tomorrow and upload them to this thread.
