This is my story and I am sticking to it. No names have been changed to protect anyone. I am a newbie to the tractor world. Previously had nothing more than a 3.5 hp push mower, but recently moved to a 6 acre spread (converted farmland). Currently about 3 acres are mowed, 100 yard gravel driveway, about 8 tress on the property and the farmer next door uses the back 3 acres for hay (we plan to start planting trees back there). So I needed a tractor to mow ~ 3 acres, snow removal on driveway, grade driveway, and any other projects to do. When I first started to look at tractors, the only names I knew where JD and Kubota. The next brand I heard of was NH after I went with my FIL to visit a New Holland dealer when we were down in Florida for Christmas.

So starting with those three, I started researching what I would need when we got back to Ohio. Found dealers for Kubota, NH, JD, and 2 new ones for me, Case and Massey Ferguson near where we live. After visiting the dealers, I came away with the following list of tractors: Kubota BX 2230, NH TZ22DA, JD 2305, MF GC2300. I ruled out Case almost immediately after visiting their dealer. He had a bigger tractor than I needed on site and was trying to sell me that one, he also sold Kioti (never heard of them before that day). He talked down about the Kioti /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif until I convinced him that the Case he wanted to sell me was way bigger than I needed, then he started singing the praises of Kioti.

Soon afterward, stumbled upon this site and posted the list above of the 4 tractors Kubota, MF, NH, and JD, and asked for your opinions. I ruled out Case and Kioti due to the dealer /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, ruled out Mahindra, Cub Cadet, and others because of difficulty of finding dealers near us. Ruled out MF for no good reason except the dealer was about twice as far away as the next farthest dealer. Now down to Kubota, NH and JD. Went again to all of the dealers and tried them all out. Kubota had just come out with the BX2350, and the race was on. The race came down to Kubota BX2350 and JD 2305 after the wife and I tried them all on. It was evenly split, one was a little cheaper but the other had better financing. Both dealers were great. Both tractors were great. In the end, we ended up going with the green tractor only because the dealer was 7 miles away versus 20 to 25 for the orange tractor.

So I hope this story helps any newbies out there. Post your questions on this site and ask for feedback. If I had found this site first, I may have tried harder to find a Kioti, Cub Cadet, Mahindra, or Case tractor. Throughout the process, different tractors were in the lead (NH, Kubota, and then finally JD), but I am extremely happy with our purchase.

Sounds to me like you did the right thing; found the tractor you liked best and from the dealer you liked best. Can't do much better than that.

I personally think everyone of the tractors you listed are good tractors and you would not have been wrong with any of them. The most important thing is are you satisfied with your purchase and it looks like you are. Dealer is an important thing and it looks like a dealer helped you rule out his own tractors.

One thing that I may comment on is the fact that you said your wife liked the green one too. Rule #1 is don't buy a tractor that your wife likes /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You bought that tractor to help you do your chores more convienently. I can see you now inside doing the dishes while she is out mowing your lawn /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just kiddin but some wives will take over.

Congrates on your new rig, you did good in your decision.

Do not laugh, but that has been hinted at already /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Now if I can just explain, it is a man's tractor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My wife is just the opposite. I have asked her to take the 2305 for a spin. She replies, "That's your toy and I don't want to learn to drive it."

I had the same delima when I was looking. I was torn between the orange and the green. I leaned toward the green because I had dealt with the green dealer before on the LT180 Lawn tractor and they treated me well. My wife doesn't like the orange colored paint that Kubota uses, so I went with the green. It's more tractor than I'll ever need, since its sole purpose is to box blade the corral every couple of weeks, or run a drag through the desert to smooth the sand.
