my tractor will not crank and it is a diesel

It won't crank? Or it won't run (but will crank)? Two very different problems.
Please provide more info, and I'm sure there's a lot of members who will help.

I agree with JS that you have air in the system that needs to be bled out. Your owners manual should describe the process. If you don't have a manual you probably should.
