My tractor\'s quieter then I am!

Have a couple of ponds and drainage canals that the frogs seem to like. I use it as my early alarm, if anyone comes near they shut up.

Unfortunately hardly ever am I able to sneak up on them to watch them croak or should I say RIV-ET RIV-ET RIV-ET.

Why is it as careful as I am I can't sneak up on them, but if I drive up with the tractor and operate the backhoe the whole community starts croaking!

The backhoe's loud, it's got to shake the ground more then my feet!

Maybe they consider it's rumbling to be a kindred spirit?

del, maybe their mommas taught 'em that tractors don't eat frogs, but some of us humans sure do./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Del -

A while back we had a thread about deer and tractors, with the same observations. On foot, I can tip-toe to within maybe a hundred feet of a deer before they bolt, yet on my tractor I often have to come to a complete stop and wait for them to make up their minds to get out of the way. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Maybe the critters just love the smell of diesel in the morning. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Heck - you should come back where we live. The stupid deer will let you get about 20-30 ft away from them. I can go out on my back deck and shout or clap my hands and they just look at me as though I was from a different planet.

They are so used to people back here that the poachers know it and take advantage of them. Yes, poachers!! We have a covenence (yuck!! it's old and a minor inconvenience) and you cannot hunt back here. I called the game wardens when I heard a shot very close to the house and was told, "Well, by the time I get there, he'll be gone - nothing I can do!!". I was floored. About the only thing they're afraid of is my dog - to an extent. They'll run about fifty yards and stop and look around because they know that the dog will chase them only so far. Dumb animals - right!

Terry, they just know not to exert themselves for no reason.

I used to have a cat that when I wanted to pick her up and bring her inside, she would walk off, if I stopped she stopped, if I sped up , she sped up, always maintained about a just-out-of-reach distance from me. It drove me nuts, I always told my wife I was going to get one of those huge butterfly nets to have the last laugh.

Same thing on safari in Africa... You could get within feet of all kinds of animals while in a jeep (or should I say Landcruiser), but, try to walk and you couldn't get within 100 yards (of course, that may be just as well :). Must have something to do with what you're use to (or what normally eats you)...
