Thanks fellas it was a fun project but it's not over yet! First round was just to get her operational and most importantly to stop the rust! Round two I will have her repainted with a good marine quality epoxy paint and also replace cylinder sleeves, pistons and rings but I will get some use out her first.
I have tons of pictures of the entire project and it's progression but I don't have a link to external site so I'll post a few at a time.
First thing I did was remove all sheet metal and stripped her down to the chassis.
Pulled entire brake assembly and freed up as it was seized up and the drum compartments full of mud.
Pulled the valve cover and repaired decompression cams. I suspected a bad head gasket so I pulled the head and boy what a surprise I was in for!
Some nasty crystallized crust on top of one of the pistons.
Major pitting on top of both pistons!
And of course a cracked head which upon further investigation and a cleaning revealed a miserable attempt to repair a previous crack!
More to come in follow up post. I will try post chronologically as the project progressed!
Thanks for the warm welcome!
