Own a M4950 2WD w/o any hydrostatics that somehow finds a "mystery neutral" whenever I get in a nose down attitude and have to shift out of any foward gear. I have to fork or bucket the tractor to a nose up attitude - turn off the machine- rock the rear wheels and restart with fingers crossed. Clutch engages - pto operates - never a grinding noise - all fluids full and clean - no metal or even any "fallout" in the trans. SOMETHING DISENGAGES requiring gravity to connect. Every dealer contacted (all in north & central Florida) require an exploratory averaging $1800.

HELP!!

Thanks in advance

John

Sounds like you have a gear that is sliding out of its position. You will need to see what's up inside the tranny.

Feel a little dumb here - only one transmission indicated in all my manuals and documentation for my M4950 including options. Strictly manual and never a grind or noise. Have fished for loose clips or anything obvious.

Thanks for listening.
ANY HINTS ARE BETTER THAN AN EXPLORATORY!
