As another poster posted a mystery part...I too have a mystery part. I have a Branson 4020 and during the winter found this broken spring on the floor board. I can't find where it came from. Anybody recognize what it might be for? It measures overall about 3 1/2 inches with the coil part being 1 3/4 inches. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Ron

Looks like the spring for either the parking brake latch or clutch pedal.

Its the clutch spring, I broke mine a year ago too.

Ernie's right, it is the clutch spring. I have broken a couple. You probably have a lttle bit of free play in the clutch pedal now before the clutch springs engage. You will have to take off part of the control panel cover to re install it. Willie Jones

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure now that's what it is. Will take a closer look this weekend. I didn't notice any problems with anything so wasn't sure. Now if I can find a spring to match it since no Branson dealer near me. All other dealers of various colors but not Branson red.

Thanks again.

hi Guys, been a long time since I have visited. Rainy day here in South Central Indiana so found myself looking thru the forums.

Funny , first thing I saw was this thread about the spring... as mine broke on a real cold day last winter. Heard the snap, and felt my clutch peddle resistence change, then not spring back correctly. Took me awhile to find what happen as one end of the spring was still hanging up under the left side dash. It was actually hung up and making me think I had a more serious problem. After freeing the spring, the clutch peddle worked ok...but without the initial resistence the spring provided I guess from top peddle to 2nd level clutch.

My branson is still going strong and love it. I have experienced a few minor issues that you all have outlined in previous posts... fuel bowl cracked, this spring breaking, and just recently my fuel cap leaking when tractor on a hill with filler neck downhill. I will have to read up on the fuel cap issue to see what people have done for this one, or if there is a replacement cap.

Hope you all enjoy your tractor as much as I do. It has reliably started since dec 2003...and a joy to work with.
