I have a small drip of oil coming from my differential between the mounting plate for the draw bar and axial flange on the very bottom. I lost about a quart over a year"s time. It seems to leak more after i cleaned it with break cleaner. I cleaned it off and found a 2 inch square patch of what looks like JB weld. I would like to fix this, does anyone know what type of metal the differential is made of and what kind of welding rod and procedure I need to do to repair this? thanks

so what is the damage and where exactly is it? just saying 'under the diffy' could mean lots of stuff.

i'd chip off the jb and see what you were dealing with. is it a crck? a busted out piece.. etc.. etc.

it is cast iron.. there are cast iron rods out there.. like certnium.. and some peopleuse a high nickel content rod.

cast can be unforgiving when you weld it.. just depends on your skill level and technique, and actual damage. I have welded cast before with good results. some others try it and get spider webs.

As a plus.. ford used good metal in their cast. As a negative, that metal is oil impregnated now..
