Nachos for 500

At our annual rural VFD fundraiser I volunteered to do the nachos. This is the first time we are having nachos and I need some help from the experienced.

I found the gallon cheese, gallon jalapeños, box of chips, and little trays at Sam's.

1. I have a couple of crock pots but do I need them if the outside August temp is 100˚+.
2. How much cheese, jalapeños and chips are needed for 500 trays?
3. What should we charge per serving?

Thanks 2Lanecruzer. That looks like the main meal with tacos. Our nachos will be just an appetizer to snack while watching the volleyball or horseshoes tournament between noon and 6pm. After 6pm we will serve our regular fish fry meal for 1200.

Darn, I was really hoping that this was a jeopardy topic: I'll take "Nacho's for 1000, Alex".

You should use the crock pots. Between 40-140 degrees lies the "Danger zone" the crock pots will keep your food over 140 at a temp inhospitable to bacterial growth.

On a side note, do you know what kind of cheese doesn't belong to you??

We were trying to do a St. Patricks Day fund raiser for the unit by selling Irish nachos, we had so many hoops to jump through with the health department and inspections and training certifications on food handling. After we got all that done, we were told we couldn't call them "Irish" nachos because it might offend someone who is Irish. So we had the St. Patricks day "deep fried potato wedges w/cheese sale fundraiser"

If you're buying the big cans of cheese, jalapenos, etc. from Sam's Club, ask them about their return policy.

When my girls played softball I was often "volunteered" to run the concession table at weekend tourneys. I remember that Sam's would take back unopened food items. Kind of surprised me that they'd do that, but they did! The point is - you might be able to buy enough so you don't have to worry about running out and then take back the extra so it doesn't come out of your profits.

Believe it or not, I barely go to McDonalds here, the wife likes to, but we go home once a year and I usually get all my American fast food fixes during that time. But the Germans call fries "Frites or pommes frites". Then they cover them with mayo, curry ketchup, and chopped onions and eat them with a toothpick.
