Backhoe Narrow bucket for 448 backhoe

I have a 448 backhoe which came with an 18" bucket. I plan on doing some trenching and would like to get a much narrower bucket (9" or so) but the smallest JD seems to offer is 12". The 447 has a 9" and I wondered if anyone knows if they are interchangeable? Or better yet are buckets universal in which case I could go wtih an off brand bucket? If so any suggestions on who/where to purchase one?

Boy, am I going to be watching this thread closely. I have a 48 hoe and have not been able to find a trenching bucket for it, either.

Seems odd they make one for the junior hoes (47 447) but not the bigger ones.

I think if they would fit, it would be in the specs.

448 boom is wider than the 447. The smallest will be the 12". I have enough problems getting dirt out of the 12", I wouldn't want to go any smaller. So far I have not found any non-JD buckets that will fit. I suspect that it's off to the dealer.

I too am in this delima but with another brand hoe. Call Randy Lackener at 800-498-8032 of Iowa City, Ia who custom fabricate buckets and shipped to CA for $475. He'll need the measurements of your existing pin location on your bucket. Unfortunately, I've been too busy to order mine to give you a report on the quality of his buckets. If anyone does order one from Randy, please post a report.

I'm looking for the same, I have a 448 backhoe that I just got first of the year and love but need smaller bucket! So this and did not know if with last post of 07 if anyone had new luck. Or know where I can find a used bucket at. I'm in North Carolina.
