This is my first garden.

A lot of things to learn and lessons to apply to next years garden.

Example 1: I don't need 44 tomato plants
Example 2: I don't need 24 cucumber plants
Example 3: Watermellon and Pumpkin take up ALOT of sq footage
Example 4: Brick layers string does not work for a pea fence. (UV rays disintigrate it)
Example 5: Mulching early is good!

Looks good Nate, you are doing a fine job of keeping the weeds out.

Great job! Very organized. I'm hoping to do the same next year. Keep it up and feel free to send me a couple of ears of that corn when it comes up. ;)

Very nice, Nate. You'll be a little crowded come harvest time, but it looks like it should be a great producing garden. Please continue giving us progress updates.

Well the garden and harvest are starting to wind down. Had a very successful first garden. Had plenty of good fresh eats, plenty to put away and plenty to give away to freinds as well.
  • Freezer is packed with green beans, corn and peppers (tried freezing whole peppers, not sure how they will be when thawed but figured it was worht a shot.
  • Pantry is packed with diced, quartered and whole tomatos, pickles, salsa and pickled hot peppers
  • Several boxes of onions and potatoes
  • Pumpkins and watermelon are still on the vine in the garden
Tomatos and peppers are still going strong so I am trying the sun-dried method to preserve some more.

Learned a bunch this year and will make adjustments as necessary next year. Less tomatos for one. I'm thinking maybe a dozen plants as opposed to 44 is the better way to go. Also, plant more corn for the 'coons. They ate at least 75% of the 400 plants I put in. I've trapped a few but my guess is they will be back anyway.

Debating wether or not to plant tomatos and peppers from seed again or just buy the plants from the nursurey. Got all winter to figure that out, though.

Wow your garden turned out nice. Mine turned out good for the most part. Everything except my cucumbers and watermelons came in good.
I know what you mean about the coons. I planted a little over 3 acres of sweet corn and thought I had it made until the second week of harvest when I got to the middle of the field and Saw no corn. It was alll on the ground chewed right of the cob.
I put up a little roadside stand for the first time and think I will do the same next year. The only problem is that I am too nice. I probably gave more away than what I could have sold.

Very nice! I think this winter you will be eating all you've kept with a big smile on your face. Nothing tastes better than stuff out of your own garden.
