National Museum of the Marine Corps

Curious as to why a B-25 or B-29 or other like-type bombers would be at a Marine museum. Perhaps they just had space until the plane reached its final display spot?

Northbound on I-95 the museum presents a great sight on the treetops all lit up on low overcast mornings. A humbling sight.

The B-25 in the pictures in this thread was designated as a Marine version with the dark blue top, it would look like ocean from above and the white belly it would look like sky and the same for looking at it from the side, it would look like horizon

Didn't Marine Pilots fly them?

I've never heard of Marine Bomber Pilots either, just fighter pilots and recon pilots. Interesting question.

Marines flew the B25 in the pacific theater during WWII. The squadrons were designated VMB (fixedwing Marine bomber)
They also flew divebombers, torpedo planes and the C47 (Goonie Bird), aircraft normally associated with the other branches airwings.

The demand for pilots was so high during WWII that they made pilots out of qualified enlisted NCO's. Matter of fact there were enlisted Marine pilots on up into the 60's.

The navigator on C130's was an enlisted slot up until the 80's I believe but now the slot is filled by commissioned officers.

I plan on visiting the museum in the near future. Who knows I may see one of my old squadron birds there

I'm no expert but I think the Navy and Marines all had tail hooks during the war... Mostly the same planes... just as today. Boing did change history when it left the deck of a carrier during WW2. And I have a Kubota tractor. Just passed security in Japan about 10 days ago... Keep your passpost ready and boarding pass ready. AND no SMOKEING.
