Tractor
Kioti CK20
I came very close to rolling my tractor the other day. I've been working on a retaining wall in back of my house (our property falls off 28 degrees on three sides) to provided a larger back yard. The first thing I did was cut a road of sorts into the hill to work from. Worked fine for a week or so. One of those nasty rainy days a week or so ago the hill gave way way and the back left tire of my DK45 dropped three feet in a heart beat.

The tractor starts to go and I figure I'm going to roll all the way down the hill, a hundred feet or so to the road. I was belted in so I just folded my arms in ducked my head and resigned myself to a hospital visit. Next thing I know I'm hung up in a tree laying over on my left side at a 45 degree angle. A tree had wedged in-between the deck and the left fender and halted the tumble. Phew! Enough to make a man say a few prayers.

All I had was a couple of scratches and a days work for me and my Forman to get the tractor out. Lucky or blessed I don't care. I am grateful for all those posts prompting me to buckle up and not count on my ability to jump. Jump my ***! Between trying to save it and speed of the collapse Spiderman wouldn't have had time, never mind this lard ***, wannabe farmer.

In this case the tractor would have stopped and I'd likely have been thrown down the hill. Mostly I would have survived that too, but can you imagine if that one tree big enough to stop me hadn't been there. There is a point where the hill drops at least ten feet straight down to the road, I would have been airborne.

Lesson learned, always, always wear the belt! Beware the rain's effect on a newly cut platform on a hill.

Wife took pictures( after the fact) I'll post them when she gives them to me.

Now getting the tractor fixed...does Kioti always take this long for parts?

Glad you are OK, that sounds scary. You are a lucky man.

Glad to hear you can write about it, and for the heads up to stay off muddy slopes too.

Glad you are okay. I have almost rolled several tractors. My Yanmar was one of the scariest. It is only 40" wide, that is in the wide setting too. :confused2: I was gonna go mow one of my neighbor's back fields and he wanted me to go up an incline that would basically minimize my time on his lawn since R1's aren't to nice to soft lawns. I put it in 3rd gear, 4wd, and climbed the hill. But it was so muddy I started to slide sideways on the front end since all the weight was on the back with my brush hog. I came very close to rolling it down the hill and into the creek which I presume is at-least 6' deep and is maybe 20 feet from this location and a steep drop off. Luckily, i was able to push in the clutch and put it in reverse and crawl it out of there. I was glad that I have a factory ROPS and a seat belt on but i cant imagine what I would have done if it would have rolled into the creek with me strapped on. :confused2::( After that, I just went the long way around his yard and have not attempted to climb that hill again. The pictures were taken right after the incident occurred.

Saw a young man crushed to death by the ROPS during a rollover. He apparently wasn't buckled and tried to jump, only to land where the ROPS pinned him.

Also worked an accident where the ROPS was folded down on a very large zero turn mower. The driver got too close to a large pond, slid down the bank, over turned and was pinned under the mower where he drowned in less than 3 feet of water.

P.S. I've been a volunteer fireman for 26 years and have seen way too much unnecessary death and misery due to people not following known safety precautions. Seat belts and ROPS are there for a reason, please use them, whether on a tractor, mower, dozer or automobile.

I almost rolled an old Ford 8n in my younger and dumber days. No rops or seat belts on those. It was similar to JD3720's experience. Going up a steep hill, front got light, lost steering, and it started to come around. My recovery was clutch in, find reverse fast, and go back down slow. I too thought I could always jump off if something happened. After I changed my underwear, I realized jumping wouldn't have worked. I think what partially saved me was the loaded tires. The higher uphill tire stayed down long enough for me to do something and luckily it worked.
It's nice you are still here and just need a few tractor parts.

I instructed my son to buckle up while doing work on the tractor and that rollover accidents are more common than reported. He thought I was being paranoid and overly cautious. Unfortunately teenagers and young adults think they are invincible; I did too. Then the very next day at church the announcement came that an acquaintance had an accident while mowing his lawn. My son no longer thinks I am paranoid.
