Running over some slash, I nearly sheared the positive battery cable that runs under the chassis near the front of my 3038E. I'm new to tractoring and apparently need to be more careful.
Maintainability is one of the main reasons I bought a Deere; it's nice to know parts are readily available. The cable is 38" 4 gauge, which is about as standard as it gets, and I could have bought an OEM cable for about 12 bucks EXCEPT the big grommet that the cable passes through from the battery compartment to the space under the chassis got sheared in two. So I sprung for the dealer pricing and dropped $54 on the cable with the grommet, shrouds, and boots. I've only have the tractor a few weeks. When the newness wears off, I'll probably be a little more creative and frugal on replacement parts. At the very least, mail order would have been a little cheaper.
Nobody to blame but myself, but it seems like the cable could have been routed where it wasn't so exposed. I'm sure glad I didn't shear a hydraulic line.
