I have a 20 gal caddy which I have used to fill all my engines but now I have started using ethanol-free gas in my small engines and am dedicating the caddy for ethanol-free gas. This leaves me with nothing to store the usual ethanol/gas mixture for my tractor. It has a 9 gal tank and I am planning to pump gas from my truck (35 gal tank) which is not driven much. I need a safe reliable way to pump (not siphon) from truck to tractor. A recommendation for a pump designed by the manufacturer for gas that is held in one hand while the other hand operates the pump is what I am looking for. Is this even reasonable or should I just get a 2nd caddy?

Not sure about your truck but trying to get gas out of mine is quite a hassle. If it were me I'd get another gas caddy and label each as to the type of gas in each.

I have considered many possibilities for a hand pump and I not found what I want. The reviews on the small ones give me pause, e.g., having to lubricate the sliding parts, having hoses that kink, etc. The ones designed for bung holes or a dedicated caddy are too expensive since I will probably only fill my tractor 3 to 4 times a year.

Soooo - I have decided to make my own. Here's my plan and I need comments on it before I get serious about it. I will use a plastic tube (3/8" ID) that descends to near the bottom of the Dodge RAM tank and the other end to the tractor tank. I will pressurize the truck tank with compressed air to force gas to through the tube to the tractor. This will require sealing off the truck gas filling port. I will do this by making a temporary plug from silicone rubber by casting it in a plastic cup around the pre-inserted plastic tubes that will carry the gas and compressed air and pressing it in the truck fill port.

From the density of gas I have calculated that a 3/8" column of gas 36" tall exerts a pressure of about 1 psi, so low pressure (4 to 5 psi?) would be required to give significant flow rate. I have a compressor nearby from which I will run the low pressure line. There will be no electricity involved to cause an ignition hazard and that is the most important part to me. Will I damage the gas tank or fuel system by adding pressure? What do you think in general of this plan?

4 or 5 psi may oilcan your trucks gas tank (cause it to bulge ),
Almost all the newer trucks have an in tank pump, have you considered adding a 3port valve under the hood,
adding a hose from that to your tractor, pull the fuel pump relay and piggy back a 30 amp rated toggle switch.
Or just get an add-on fuel pump for a carbureted car throw the inlet in the truck tank outlet to the tractor switch inline,
alligator clips for the battery.
That said air pressure will work but most fuel tanks can't take much and if it has a vapor recovery system it may fail
and cause a check engine light.

Yeah, I wonder about the evaporative emission control system, too.

That said, I have used air and a dipper tube to dispense diesel out of a jerry can. I used just enough
pressure via a Schrader valve and my air hose to push the fuel out thru a 1/2" hose. I could
empty the can in just seconds. It was maybe 5-7psi, and it DID push out the sides of the can,
but not enough to cause worry.

The hard part of getting gas out of a road-going vehicle is how to get a tube down the filler
to the fuel. There are enough obstacles on the way down (incl corrugated pipe) that keep
me from getting a hose down there. I have tried on numerous newer vehicles without luck.

If you’re only filling the tractor a few times a year why not just use the more expensive ethanol free gas? And I don’t think the truck tank will like being pressurized.

I forgot about the evap control sys. It's a '95 Dodge RAM. Does that make a difference? Maybe filling the tractor with ethanol-free gas is best. I have already done that once. Oh well, it was fun thinking about the "solution".
