Need a new Freezer: what's good, what's bad, what's on sale?

Refers and freezers generally are Not economically repairable out of warranty, particularly chest freezers.
I have free hvac labor and would replace rather than repair.
Get the best, most efficient, you can at a scratch and dent and you will be laughing all the way to the bank for years.

We are having difficulty getting the door gasket to seal on our new upright freezer. When in storage the gasket took a squashed set in the summer heat in a hard compressed configuration when in it's factory packaging.

What I find that mostly goes wrong on freezers is, either the thermostat bulb loses it's charge,or the relay that plugs onto the compressor fails.

I have an old chest type that my parents had from the 70's. Never had to replace a part on this freezer.

I have a 5.0 cubic ft freezer ( 2yrs old) that I've had to replace the relay on the compressor. I have a friend that has the same 5.0 cu ft freezer, and I had to replace his thermostat.. None of the new appliances hold up like the old stuff.
