NEED A TANK FOR YOUR TRACTOR FUEL?

DocD, my son works for an oil distributor and he got me one of those tanks. They put all kind of products into them from Kero to gear oil. It has not been any problem as a fuel tank except adapting the 4" drain to a smaller size host to fill with.

DocD, we use those same tanks for our waste oil.

:confused:So how did you adapt it??????

The unit has a ball valve on it. I couldn't find anything to adapt to that so I took it off, put a metal plug into the hole, tapped it to a smaller size that I could get a hose to fit. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it.

Yours had a 4" drain? The ones we have here are 2" and while they have a unique thread there are adapters to go from those threads to a common thread type. You have to buy the adapters from the company that makes the tanks. The special adapters cost around $30 though so we just used a 45 degree elbow that was that special thread on both ends and cut the male end off. We then clamped a 2" hose to that for filling our sprayer on remote locations where we don't have easy water access. When one tank is empty I unscrew the fitting with the hose and put it on the next tank so I only needed one hose for all three tanks I currently have.

A 4" drain would be quite large and would be great for filling my 400 gallon sprayer fast. Where did you find that tank?

Mine did not have any special treads or anything like that. I simply took off the ball valve and went to the hardware/farm store and found what I needed to adapt it down to 3/4" barb fitting to put my fuel hose on.

I then just took it home, put the ball valve back in and set it up. My total cost with hose, fittings, filler neck, filter housing, and accessories was under $75

We,ve got those plastic tanks not far from me in Cleveland Ohio also. I plan to get one to use as a tank for a homemade crop sprayer (yep, one of those "roundtoit" projects) But I bought a metal tank on a stand with hand pump, hose, and fill nozel for $102 off ebay. I use that for Diesel. Of course it is about time to paint it...

How about the plain ol' 55 gal drum? I've got a couple of like-new drums that contained frying oil in a previous life. Paid $5 each and they seem to work fine. Picked up a Gasboy hand pump in a garage sale for $10. Cheap fueling.
:)
30 and 55 gallon Drums are ideal for making fuel storage set ups; especially for low volume users.
I built my first Set Up back in March using a 30 gallon plastic drum with a 12 volt electric pump.
I just completed my second set up the first part of November.
This one has a 30 gallon drum and a 55 gallon drum plumbed into it.
