Need advice buying a hunting dog shock collar.

My shorthairs are 8 years old and my shock collars quit working years ago. I still put them on the dogs every time we hunt though. They behave differently if they aren't wearing the collar. They just don't know the collars don't work!

I used Tritronics for a decade with my first Brittany. The newest one is on Sportdog because it also vibrates and I can work more than one on the same controller. My Brittany spends 2 hours a day in the Atlantic Ocean, and weekends running the mountains. No real bird hunting, can't help there. Both last. For me the key is the advice Steve Snell of Gun Dog Supply provides helping you chose systems.

+1 on Gun Dog Supply / Steve.
I've had a number of gundogs, today we have a 6mo Brittany and a 6 yr GWP and they're awesome bird dogs (the Brit shows signs of being the best I've had yet). I've used a variety of e-collars over the past ten years; have a Dogtra collar/beeper combo for one and just acquired DT Systems 2420 for the other. really like these - have used tritronics & innotek before. Of all, I like the DT Systems features the best, including vibe/tone and 'jump' stim. With the right training and introduction, use of the ecollar is just an extension of the checkcord and a valuable training aid.
