Need Advice for wife\'s new ATV

My wife has decided to get her own ATV and I have been looking at the different brands avalible . She wants IRS on the rear as my Polaris Sportmans has . 4x4 is a must in our country with auto shift . The 2005 500 Sportsman I use is just to big for her and she does not like the hard steering and muscle required to turn it . I was looking in the 300 cc class and saw a new model is due out in November for Polaris ,called the Hawkeye . I would appreciate any input on brands you have experience with that might meet her needs . We won't be tearing up the racetrack on these ,just traveling the back country and working around the ranch .

thx
Al

Re: Need Advice for wife\'s new ATV

My friend has a Yamaha Kodiak 400 and a new 450. They are smaller framed ATV's and very easy to turn. They have been wonderful to ride. Good luck.

I second the Kodiak choice. Go for the 450 if your buget allows, the 400 and 450 are on the same chassis or you could go no frills with the Bruin 350

I think you are on the right track, looking at smaller machines. I have a Polaris 500 and my friend has a 400. When I rode his I was amazed at how much easier it was to turn. Let her test ride a few to see what suits her.

Tire pressure has alot to do with how they turn.I run 7 lbs in my wifes fronts or more sometime depending on how smooth the trails are.turns easier.350 hours, original tires they still are great shape.

I got my wide a Honda Foreman S with the selectable 2wd vs. 4wd. Not having the front wheels pulling does make a difference.

I don't believe I would be referring to my wife as a "wide". That just don't seem wise.

Re: Need Advice for wife\'s new ATV

I'd recommend you look at the Bombardier Outlander 330. My wife has an '04 model and loves it. It's been troublefree except for a voltage regulator that was covered under warranty. Has IRS, fantastic ground clearance, dynamic braking which works fantastic but takes getting used too. It's larger than my Foreman450 but handles better and is very easy to control. If you buy a leftover 04 or 05 you can save a couple grand on 'em too. Takes a bit of look'n around. Good luck with whatever you decide on. Regards: Glenn
