Hello, all -

Hoping I can get some reassuring info and help here... I'm a new tractor owner, just bought my first, a Hinomoto 2304. When I went to check it out, everything seemed great, ran great, plenty of power, etc...

When it got delivered yesterday, it seems the guy I bought it from had an accident loading it, and ran it off the front of the trailer he was hauling it on. No damage to the tractor other than now the left rear brake is locked up, and the linkage seems is bent. Have tried to straighten out the linkage, but it's still locked up.

Can anyone help me with a few questions here?

Where can I get parts if I need them to fix the tractor?

Does anyone have an owner's manual or operators manual or repair manual they would be willing to sell or sell me a copy of?

Do Massey Ferguson 1030 parts interchange with the 2304?

I need a new seat assembly, and a muffler pipe assembly...where can I get them?

I will be using the tractor to auger out fencepost holes, box-blade the driveway, and am thinking about adding a FEL to haul LIGHT loads like topsoil and mulch...nothing very heavy...I would also like to get a plow and tiller attachment to put in 5 acres of corn for feed...will the tractor handle this workload?

If someone can help me with suggestions and help in fixing the brake situation, I'd really appreciate it...

I didn't realize that it would seem to be so difficult to get parts for and service help for this tractor...wondering if I should maybe trade it for something else, or if I just need some info to be reassured I can get the parts and manuals I need and just need to relax...

Also, am I just missing it, or will I have to buy a separate hydraulic pump in order to put on a FEL? Where would the hydraulic pump be?

And what is the purpose of the wires located under a rubber boot covering on the left-hand side of the gear lever??

I'd say the first step is to contact the guy you bought it from. He drove it off the trailer and should be responsible for fixing his mistakes.

All these questions should have been answered before you bought the tractor. Since it is too late to remedy that, my personal advice would be to insist on a refund based on the damage during delivery. There is a reason the biggest and most respected dealers in the tractor grey market stick primarily with Yanmar and it has a lot to do with parts. A lot.

Good luck, whatever you choose to do.

Hi Ponder If you haven't done a search yet on this site re: these tractors you should since there is a lot of good info about them already. Others now better than me about parts for these machines. I had one for a short time but it developed a problem in the front end and after pricing parts for it at a MF dealer I decided to return it to the guy I bought it from. That being said if your handy and the price is right and your certain its a good machine it could still be a good way to go. ( I'm actually thinking of getting the machine again if he will sell it cheap enough). You should be able to get an aftermarket seat and muffler that you can adapt to fit it.
The one I had came with a loader which it handled very well with the factory hydraulic pump but you should be very careful about adding a loader as these machines require beefing up of the front axle as well as a good subframe if you go that route. Also if farming 5 acres of corn is one of your main purposes for buying a tractor I think there are better choices than this machine.

My info shows that the Hino 2304 is closely related to the Deutz-Allis 5220 and Massey-Ferguson 1033. I wouldn't claim 100% parts match, certainly not sheet metal, but probably 90%+ on mechanical. Try your nearest M-F dealer -- I still get parts for my Allis 5020 (kin to Hino E23 and MF 210) through M-F.

Watch out on the loader. Hino's have aluminum bell housings and tranny cases and they will not support a loader under even moderately heavy use. Need to find a full sub-frame model and strengthen the axels as well.

Most of these tractors use a mechanical cam action to work the brakes. If it was forced past center it could be stuck on the high side. If you take the rod off the lever on the brake end and " Love Tap" the lever back and forth to get it to center, it might work. These brake systems are commonly sticky, lube is good too.

Back when I was selling greys, I made the mistake of selling 3 hinomotos, 2 were the 2304... The engine is the only thing that interchanges (that I found). Because the hydraulic control valve for the 3 point is completely obsolete and prone to problems, espceially out here in the NW,,being that it's electric and not mechanical. I bought the 1 tractor back when the valve failed and dumped it at a Richie Brothers Auction under a private name. The repair was going to cost more then the loader on the tractor, and more then the tractor was worth investing in after we found out what all was going to be involved and that this really was not the kind of machine we wanted to put out name on. The other unit is still running great and the owner has had no problems or complaints.

They are a good strong tractor with what seems like and endless torque band, they really new how to make them back in the early 80's,,, but for what it is worth, I personally would never buy or sell one again. Generally we found that Yanmar and Mitsubishi were relatively safe,,, although don't take that as a blanket statement,, they both have models I wouldn't turn. But "generally" they are safe,,,

Can someone elaborate about how to lube these brakes? I have the housing off and can't see anything broken, shoes look good, springs are in place. I have provide several love taps as suggested. But he cam is still stuck a little on the high side. Guess I need a bigger hammer. Thanks for all the info on this site.

I ended up taking the entire brake off the tractor to get the cam lever loose. Once you have the spring clip and the drum off, you can easily pull the shoes off. Remove the 4 bolts holding the brake housing to the transmission. Then another spring clip to pull the cam lever out of the brake housing. Clean and put a little wheel bearing grease on the o rings.

That's the route I took anyway. If another grease is better or I did anything wrong, please let me know.
