Need advice on heated car seat cushions

Does anyone know anything about heated car seat cushions such as good brands or things to buy or avoid? We would like some for the trucks but it is very confusing with lots of styles and brands but no front runners. Does anyone know anything about them?

Lots of places install them for a nominal cost per seat and it's one of those jobs that goes pretty fast once you have done 10 of them

Our Ford Escape has the factory heated seats. I've never used or had a use for such, but my wife sure likes them. But I don't guess I've even heard of after market heated seats, so are you talking about a plug in heated cushion or something like RustyA mentioned (that I'd never heard of)?

In Texas there is probably less need to add heated seats if not factory equipped. Up here in the tundra its a pretty common item that some truck accessory places specialize in. It's usually around $300 per seat parts and labor and include a button mounted in plastic seat trim with hi/low/off switch.

Either would work but a plug-in heated seat cushion, or whatever it's called, is what I think I want but I know nothing about them. I don't want to disassemble the seats so it has to be something plug-in. I rode in a vehicle with heated seats last year and it was wonderful.

Trust me you do not want a strap on type heated cushion. Every time you enter and exit the vehicle it will move around and the edges will catch on your clothing and curl up. Soon they will be in the dumpster.

Is there one without straps that works? I really don't want to take the seat apart but want to make do with the next best thing. I'm OK if it moves around some since wife will likely take it out for her use.

Our 'burb' has heated and cooled seats. We use the cool feature more thsn the heat. Leather, in the summer is not comfortable unless cooled. Never heard of a heated cushion for a car seat. Wife has a 12 volt blanket she uses in the RV on cold nights though.

The Taco Wagon has heated & cooled front bucket seats. I've only used the heated and only for a short while. Haven't figured out if the temps can be regulated. It gets pretty warm - even in the winter.

However - as a joke one of my cousins gave a "hot pad" to use on the tractor. It's just a high density foam pad. It really works. No electricity required. Just plop it down on the seat and sit on it. You should check it out before you spend $$$ on a questionable product. I can vouch - it works.

My mother in law has a pair of the cheap ones with the elastic that holds it to the seat back and seat bottom. They just plug into the cigaret lighter socket. They have an in-line switch for high and low temps. They were less than $20 for the pair at some budget store. As cheap as they are, i'm surprised how well they work and they are at least 5 years old and still work. She removes them in summer. She's had an organ transplant, and gets cold easily, so she uses them very often. The elastic is starting to become weak. As i said, i'm surprised how well they held up with as often she uses them.

If I were going to get them for myself, i think i'd get full seat covers.

Another option for you is to find if your vehicle was ever offered with heated seats. You can then either buy the heaters and switches and have someone install them, or, go to a junkyard and get them already installed in the seats. You may have to hunt around for the correct color, but they're out there. Depends how handy you are, but usually there's already a knockout in you dash, console for the heater switches, and usually the wiring harness is already set up for them from the factory.
