Fellow Posters,

The XUV Gator is in. My dealer is working hard on getting one ready for me. I have proven in the past to be able to use such a machine often and for many things, so I would like to get one. I have thought some about selling my 3720 to ease the strain on the family unit (read wife) and getting a smaller tractor to supplement the Gator. As of this writing, I am not convinced I want to do this. I would like some opinions from the group about how much a 3720 with hydro, 300cx, third SCV, rear PTO only, and air ride seat/cruise should bring. It has 65 hours on it. I am really in no way convinced I would sell anyway, but would like thoughts nonetheless. I have looked on TractorFinder and other sites, but most of these seem to be dealer offers, not private sales. To me, there would be some difference. I very likely will try to keep both, but the wife might not go for that. I do appreciate the advice. Anyone want a front snow blade?????? Thanks again for the help to let me see where I stand.

John, seems to me you have several options: 1) You have a good relationship with your dealer. Ask him what he can give you on trade for the Gator and a smaller tractor. 2)Run it on eBay and what it brings it brings. If it's in excellent condition it will bring top dollar. 3) Sell it yourself and have to put up with people calling and fishing for prices. And then haggling aout price if you do find a serious buyer. 4) Get rid of your wife and keep the 3720 and the new Gator. 5)Let the dealer sell it on consignment for you. Most charge 7 to 10 percent.

Your dealer is going to be able to give you a better estimate as to what you can get for it than anyone here on TBN. Ask him.

But ultimately its your choice, and the sad part about it, no matter what you decide you are not going to be happy with what you get. I can see the therapy isn't doing you a bit of good.

Sincerely,
Dirt

If you've got a "straight up" relationship with your dealer and can rely upon him to give you the unvarnished truth --- by all means, sit down with him and work through the numbers. (You're gonna have to work with him on the gator numbers, anyway.) But they're gonna get a slice on the gator, a nickle or three on the new, smaller tractor and a commission on your 3720.

I can't see how you're gonna come close on making up the difference, dollar-wise, on selling your 3720 and dropping down enough tractor-wise to do the kinds of work around your place you currently do.

You'd have to drop back to a 3320 at the least, and what are you gonna get on that? Would you end up with $3-4K in your pocket after everything shakes out? Put that against a (guessing here) $9K gator (diesel..?).

I think I'd stick with the 3720 and suck up the $3-4K in the short term. My $0.02 towards the $69 dollar question.

Maybe I'm wired weird, but I can't even imagine giving up a tractor for a run about. A Gator might be a lot of fun, but it can't "do" anything except get you and a few hundred pounds of stuff from point "A" to point "B".

Keep the 3720, reign in your lust for the latest and greatest, buy a used golf cart and put a lift kit on it.

Tractor lust is a dangerous thing... Can lead a man to fall into the most foolhardy deals!

Why, I lust after them cab models all the time.

And I've been known to stare too long at even the little sweethearts. Ah, those cute 430 and 455 diesels...

Dirt and others,

Thanks for the advice. I would say though that I am VERY happy with my current tractor. It is great!!!! I used it for five hours today and thought, "Man, what a nice tractor!!!" I will admit there has been some shopping around, but this has mainly been due to trying to find exactly the "right" machine for me. Although my 3720 is really more than I need, it feels right to me. I agree with Jeff, there is no way I would trade a tractor for a Gator. The XUV Gator is nice, and I have a unique situation here where one would fit a lot of my needs very nicely. My dealer also gets excited about modifying these machines, so I feel obliged (kidding) to work with him on his projects. We both are gearheads at heart and get along well. I have discussed with him pricing for my 3720 if I decided to sell, but I feel he bends over TOO much to help me, so I wanted some independent thoughts that are unbiased. Right now, I am going through the dilemma about whether a smaller tractor and Gator, both for space and cost considerations, is the better way to go. I really like my tractor though and after today, I find it tough to even think about letting it go. I appreciate the help and the good natured fun, also.

If I any of the following were true

I was unable to walk.

I owned 200 or more acres

I had money to burn

I did not have nor want a tractor but had a need to haul small loads over soft ground

I would pop for a gator type vehicle

Yeah, the gator is ok, but I would have to agree that I would keep a tractor. Put a cab on it and modify a receiver hitch tray for short loads, and drag a small trailer around for larger loads!
