Just purchased a jd 4520 with quick hitch, fel, disc harrow, rear blade, forks. I have not purchased a rough cut mower yet and was wondering what kind to buy. I would really like it to be compatible with the quick hitch since everything else is. I was told it will have to have a longer shaft for the pto and will cost more. I don't really want to buy new because of cost and don't have a large amount to mow but will need it to for large weeds, corn, etc. I can just take the quick hitch off but would be nice to leave it on for everything. Your suggestions are appreciated.

Also, was told to buy a 72'.

JD MX6, keep it green!

I would do either a Bush Hog, Woods or John Deere. That way you only have to buy once if you buy the better one, remember green spray paint is cheap.Oh 72" would be my choice.

Is your 4520 a 60hp model or the earlier 53hp model? Depending upon your typical mowing conditions -- you could power an 8' MX-8 cutter with a 60hp model.

The semi-mount model lessens the weight carried on the rear of the tractor and makes handling and maneuvering easier.

Of course, if you're planning to mow pretty heavy brush or thick, wet patches of 4' tall weeds - stick with the MX-6 size mowers.

I've got a 72" Frontier brush pull behind for my 4720 - Frontier is sold by all JD dealers and seems to be less expensive than the JD mowing decks. I have not had any problems with it.

I have an MX6 for my 4520 with IMatch, haven't needed a longer shaft for mine. The MX6 is a good match imo.

I got my MX6 when I got the tractor, and at that time it did not have an iMatch on it. Got the iMatch later, didn't have any problems with the drive shaft. You can figure out how much overlap you have on the shaft to insure it's enough.

MX6 works great, you'll have more power than you can use. I did some fields that had not been cut for 4 years, had some 1.5" gum trees on them. Backed into everything, had no problems. "normal" field areas that get mowed once a year can be cut at 5 MPH and get good results.

I don't have the FEL so I have to put weights on the front of the tractor, I have some hilly areas where the weights are needed to keep steering control.
