I ordered a grapple for the Koyker 120 on my Yanmar 2210D. I'm a very new tractor owner & have zero hydraulics experience; want to get it right the first time. I am including two pics of the loader valve to see if it's able to have a power beyond fitting added. I want to include quick connect fittings, so I can unplug the grapple and run another implement (I'm thinking log splitter). I believe the grapple has 3/8" fittings.

I need to know what type of valve to buy to operate the grapple, how (and where) to tap into the loader valve, and whatever else I need to buy in the way of hoses, fittings, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help. You will have a great feeling after helping the (hydraulically) retarded. Me.
Steve

It seems you have an open center with power beyond (or able to convert to it). Look on page 25 of the manual... top of page, "out (tank)" I did not see a third line (low pressure return) from your valve... is there one? (didn't see in your photo - or missed it...)

http://www.koykermfg.com/images/koyker-manuals/120.pdf

It this is the case, it might not be too different from the one I just did... (I did 3 valves but it's the same if you only wanted one).

Confirm that this is your loader model, too...

My write up: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...7948-instructions-add-extra-spools-l2800.html

Yep, 120 is the model. I don't know if the fact that mine is two lever, and not joystick style, makes any difference?
So, the port that the power beyond sleeve goes into is covered by the valve mounting plate? Is that how you see it? I have no idea about the low pressure return hose........

I just read your write up........it helped me some, but I'm still considerably confused. Essentially though, won't the grapple cylinder be fed through the power beyond (and it's valve/spool) and then need to return to the hydraulics reservoir/tank? If that's right, then I'm on the way to better understanding this.

Now just need to narrow down the parts/accessories I'll need.

Thanks for the help........I'm really looking forward to getting this done.

Look at this video from Everything Attachments:

Tractor 3rd function kit

They sell a kit for setting up a grapple. Might give you some ideas.

That was very helpful, and exactly what I had in mind as far as being able to remove the hoses going to the grapple and plug another attachment in.

The whole handle idea confused me severely however:laughing:. I envisioned a single spool valve mounted above or on the side of the loader valve. Also...the kit from everything attachments is $700!!!!!!!! OUCH!
I don't know if I want to pay for that fancy finger-controlled rig. Does anyone have one installed on their tractor? Feedback??

the replies I've gotten so far have been a great help. It's nice not to feel like I'm doing it alone!!

This might be correct... (I'm very much a nubie when it comes to hydraulics) There was someone, that talked about using the power beyond to connect into a valve... but I don't know anything like that... The #2 circle might be the actual power beyond do hicky thingie you'll need ????

stormpetrel,

The PB port is on the right with the large hex plug. When you get the PB sleeve, remove the plug and screw the PB sleeve in.

I hadn't checked the price for the kit. That is steep. I literally know zip about hydraulics...other than they let you do some really cool stuff.

I did get the rear SCVs installed on my JD 3038e. I was thinking they would be fine for running the grapple until I saw that video. But apparently you need the kit to upgrade your loader stick to have a true third function. Am I wrong?

Whatever you decide to do, please let us know.

FWIW...I have seen valves that do not have PB...but do have both side and face ports for different hose configurations...

Thanks, very helpful.

So: from PB sleeve, to grapple valve to grapple, back to tank? Am I even close?
