I've got a coworker/friend that is into 600CC midget and modified 5hp class cart racing. He is building a dirt oval for public racing for the small cart classes and is looking for (preferably) a small grader but after much searching can't find anything in his limited price range. He needs something to assist in the initial building but more importantly the maintenance. He plans on using a wobble wheel roller to keep it packed but needs something fairly wide and long to prevent ripples and small humps. He has several back hoes, wheel loaders, dozers, track hoes, ag tractors and God knows what else and he can fabricate about anything.
Since he is not having luck finding a cheap grader, what would be the next best thing?

Wide blade for one of his current machines?

About 35 miles from me is an old grader that has no engine. (Designed that way) It was made to be pulled by I guess a tractor or dozer. Maybe he could find one of those.

A few years ago I found a road grader for sale for $3500. Unfortunately it blew a hose while the owner was demonstrating it. Lots of old dry rubber on that unit. I passed.

Another alternative, similar to one mentioned above, are the old horse drawn graders that were converted to be pulled with tractors. There was one on an old homestead I came to own but unfortunately it had disappeared by then.

Thanks. I am an avid auction watcher and keep a close eye on GSA and Gov Liquidation as well as a few other federal and state auction sites.
There are some deals to be had but unfortunately haven't found anything in quite some time within reasonable distance. I have found some pieces I have thought about bidding on but when getting shipping quotes on a 20-30,000lbs machine from Utah or CA........it generally eats up the "deal" factor. I will keep looking though.
Thanks.
