Guys I bought a John Deere 1070 just last week that has turf tires on it. It is a 4wd model with a loader bucket. I didn't realize I would have to get new wheels as well as the tires. The problem is I am having a hard time finding wheels. Tractordata shows it calls for 13.6-28 rear ag tires. I contacted the local John deere dealer here and he said they don't show a wheel listed for that size. Can anyone point me in what I actually need to get. It also calls for front ag tires of 8-16.

The current turf tire on the rear is a 44x18.00-20. I don't know much about tires and just assumed I could get new ag tires to fit my rims. I have saw some 13.6-28 tires on rims with no center, but I don't know if I can use what I currently have to bolt it up.

Any help or direction is appreciated.

Doesn't your owners manual list tire sizes for 4WD in your model. Because its 4WD the front / rear tires must be matched to meet the requirements of the 4WD system.

You will be locked into the sizes that John Deere recommends for your tractor. Certainly the JD dealer can provide the rims and then it finding a tire dealership that has the R-1 sizes you need. I have used Firestone - Titan - Goodyear R-1 tires. Molded right into the sidewall of these tires is the required rim size.

The dealer says that the wheel assembly isn't available any longer. So I am hoping to find something

I am also trying to figure out if a rim from a newer model would fit.

Try finding a large tire dealer and ask them to find a tire that will fit your wheel. I'm not sure that they will be able to find one, but it's worth a try. I was looking for turf tires a few years ago for my Kubota and the goodyear dealer was able to find a tire that fit my existing wheel.

Also, if your old tires are in good condition, I am interested in buying them from you. I have a Kubota L5740 and your turf tires are the size that I need for my the rear on my tractor. What size are your front tires?

If the wheels would fit my Kubota, I would buy all 4 from you, but I doubt John Deere wheels will fit a Kubota.

I called one place and they said there isn't a bar tire replacement for my current sized ag tire. I am hoping that someone has Ag tires abs needs turfs. I would gladly trade them and give them boot to make it very favorable to them. But I am hoping that maybe a newer model tractor rim will fit mine. For what I am wanting to do I need/want ag tires

From what I've learned here on TBN - ag, turf & industrial tires each take their own kind of rim - most of the time. And usually you can not mount ag tires on rims designed for industrial tires, etc, etc.

So look at your owners manual. See the size Ag tires that are recommended for your tractor - front & rear. Find a large tire dealer that can supply those tires. Then ask them to find the correct rims to fit those tires AND your tractor. It might be that they can find the correct ag tires to fit your existing rims but will recommend that tubes be installed to insure they stay inflated.

Spook - call a different JD dealer and see what they have to say about your situation. The other thing - you do need to get your hand on an owners manual. Mine lists, for my model tractor - six sizes of R-1 tires for the front and three for the rear. Gives a lot more info that I could ever get off Tractor Data site.

My tractor is 4WD.

I've called 2 dealers but they are both owned by the same place. They are the only 2 fairly close to me. They both said the same thing. The 2nd guy was going to do some research and see if anything from a new model may work.

I'll try calling one of the big tire manufacturers.

Does anyone have an owners manual for a 1070 that could look and see what size tires it shows will work?

I ordered a service manual but haven't got it yet. I need to change the fuel filters as well and need to make sure I know what I am doing

You might consider looking for another tractor that has the Ag tires you want, and sell the JD 1070 with the turf tires.
Or find another 1070 with Ag tires, switch them with your tractor and re-sell the other tractor.

It is a dilemma that you are in, for sure. Wish you good luck..

Just for kicks, googled JD 1070 and there is one on eBay.. maybe others too (i.e 7 on TractorHouse)

I know. I got this one mainly to bush hog with and to use the front loader. And with my property I need the Ag tires. It did come with a John Deere 8b backhoe so I may just sale the backhoe to pay for some Ag tires. I found some new wheels
Online. Wheels and tires are going to be a lot more than I was expecting.

If my memory is correct my 2006 JD 4320 ag tires rear call out is the 13.6 X 28. with a 8 on 8 BC with 6" dia hub. I will go up to my building tomorrow to check it out, it's getting late The JD dealer could look up that tire and rim combo for you. Your rear turf tires are the same as i have but i also have the R4 industrial bar tires. The ag wheel should be the adjustable one so it should fit your tractor. My 4320 is a cousin to your 1070. Some interim models were the 4000, 4000 tens series then the 4000 20 series, I thinkl.

You might be on to something there. Can anyone that knows much about tires tell me what this thread means
https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums...23836-project-1070-r4-conversion-success.html

I am thinking that maybe I could get read wheels from a 4005 or a 990. I know my rear wheel has the 8 bolt spacing but I didn't measure the center width. Sorry to be a pain. I just don't understand the difference in tires but do know that I need to keep ratios the same for my 4wd.

I would be really happy with r4 tires. Anything would be better on my hills and mud than the turfs on it now. I am just hoping to be able to find wheels that will fit that I can buy tires to mount on to serve my needs. Keep the help and directions coming

Ok I think I found some rear wheels that will work on a standard 8 on 8 bolt pattern with 6" hole. Now I just need some
Front wheels. Going from the previous practice post it states a metric pattern for the fronts. I've measured mine but just with a tape measure. Does anyone know if these will fit?

Sorry for all the hassle. I am hoping someone would know or has tried them. I am a lot closer to getting this done. Just a lot of headache and is going to be a lot of money

I don think so. They will fit my tractor a JD4320 6 on 6 with a 4.62 bore.

Contact Tucker Tire in Dyersburg, TN. Got my R1 tire/wheel set for my 4300 from them. It looked like they welded the bolt circle plate into the rear rim centers to get correct pattern. There is a world of difference between R1 and R4 in wet/mud and on hillsides.

If you have your rear tires figured out then all you need are the fronts. The post from "Radius118" seems to have figured out the front tire spec. Here is a copy from his post about the front tires having a metric bolt pattern and hub dia. "The wheels for these axles use a metric bolt pattern - 150mm (5.906") bolt pattern with a 90mm (3.564") center bore." You should be able to measure your front hubs and confirm these sizes. Then ZZVYB6 got you the tire size, "4WD: front 8-16
rear 13.6-28" . Therefore you should be able locate the correct front wheels. Later

caution, Caution CAUTION !!!
It has a loader, but has turf tires and you are shopping for Ags.
Do KNOW that Ags and turfs are NOT rated for loader use, so decide if you are going to PULL with this or LIFT with it - R4s are the only tires that can do BOTH.

Well now, what a coincidence ?

I have a set of turfs in those sizes, I'll look up my owner' manual to see what Ags and Industrials were offered on that tractor.
First I'll mention that my set of turf wheels are one piece, i.e. there is no separate "center" that the rim is bolted to.

Turfs;
Front 29/12.50-15
Rear 44/18.0-20

Industrial R4s;
Front 12-16.5
Rear 17.5L-24

Ags;
Front 8-18
Rear 12.4-28

I can vouch for the turf and R4 sizes since I have both.

Now the fun part.
Not everyone knows this and many who do know don't like to admit it.
JD contracts out the building of their small tractors to such companies as Kukje in south Korea.
Some say that they don't actually contract out the building of their design, they bulk buy the builder's standard offerings and have them re-badged.
Supposedly the "difference" between some Branson models and some JD models is red vs green and yellow.
(emblem engineering)

The data I copied above is from my Century (also a re-badged Kukje) tractor manual.

Hint/clue; you could try to find your local Branson dealer, prices will likely be better than at a JD dealer.
Dealers often have "take-offs" from tractors that the buyer wanted something different on, i.e. R4s are more popular than Ags, so there could be a set or two in the back somewhere.

Curious; What size (HP, or displacement) is this tractor ?

EDIT:

Ooops, I just looked it up, seems it is a re-badged 35 HP Yanmar with some in-between sized tires/rims.

I went through this when I needed to change from turf to ag tires after I blew out a turf tire. I had bought used cheap ag tires with rusted out rims and nice heavy cast centers thinking it would be no problem getting new rims... turns out they were 24 inch double bevel, a rare bird. I found them at Miller Tire. In the end I ended up with my used ag tires, used centers but new rims. Mine was 2WD so not as complicated as 4WD. When buying used tractors, tires are one thing I will never overlook again.
