2012 Mahindra 8560
Good morning, I purchased a 2012 Mahindra 8560 with a front loader in May of 2019. The tractor had 852 hours on it and looked to be in great condition. My thought was to purchase a bigger than needed tractor to last longer than needed. In December 2019, while drivng down the driveway at 1600 rpm, it threw a rod out of the right side of the motor. As frustrating as this was, repairing it has become a nightmare. Mahindra does not sell a short block assembly for this model. That means I will have to piece the engine together item by item starting with the block ($3,000.00) and the crankshaft ($900,00 +). OR........ Mahindra will gladly sell me a complete engine for $15,700.00.
Then comes the labor bill. I have had the tractor at two separate mechanics whose enthusiasm quickly diminishes when they try to find used parts.

I am looking for any used, salvaged, parts, but also for any idea, advice or experience.

Or, do I have an 8,000 pound fishing weight?

Thank you and take care

No advice but I would be devastated. Any idea on what caused this to happen? Hate to put in the same part that caused it to happen in the first place.

No idea as to what caused it. Less than 100 hours on it after service. Plenty of oil, low rpm, load of dirt in the bucket, level surface, no warning light. Getting word now from former owners that Mahindra stopped this model due to problems. I can't confirm that but it is becoming apparent as time goes on and lack of support from the company. I will put newer pieces in if I can find a block and crankshaft reasonably priced. The reason behind my search for parts and info is that if I buy every piece needed the parts alone are around $11,000.00. The tractor might be worth 20-21 k if it was running.

Sorry for your misfortune! I had a similar experience with my Kioti. Bought it at a local auction, brought it home, backed it off the trailer and then it came apart! Nice hole in the block. I was fortunate to get a replacement complete engine for $2500. Not a problem since.

My plan before finding new engine was to weld a patch on the block and rebuild the engine. If I had your situation, that is exactly what I would do. A good welding shop can do that for you and it will be good as new! Good luck!

That really sucks! I feel for you.
Not familiar with this model, a quick search indicates Mahindra had trouble with this engine. If so, they should go above and beyond to help you.
Maybe post the problem on their Facebook page, a bit of embarrassment may help - at least you might get a ball-cap.
Could be cheaper to import an engine from India??

Please keep us informed of your progress.

If the top of the engine is all OK and you don't have to replace all rods & pistons going with the SB & Crankshaft $4,000 may be the way, you can buy aftermarket parts. Don't know what the labour would come up to and when you do all the additions perhaps the $15K long block may come out cheaper. But it really sucks for you!

keep hunting the web for salvage there has gotta be a one somewhere. Your 8560 isn't a paper weight just yet... If i were in you're shoes, i would reuse as much as possible from you're engine... Sounds like the top end is good, re use pistons and rods if not damaged, replace only damaged ones. rering used pistons. Did it brake the crankshaft or just score it? you might could get away with a regrind and use oversize rod bearings.

I would definitively get a new or use block... repairing a block is dicey (but nothing is impossible ) depending on the extent of damage and i don't know of any shop that would take that on as part of a rebuild.

I'll admit most shops are gonna shy away from taking on this work unless you do a short block replacement because they don't want to risk any come backs. Also the amount of labor and skill required.

I would also try and pinpoint why it failed. signs of lack of lubrication? either something failed from flaw in workmanship (material or assembly) or something wasn't right with the engine since day one. I definitely would check the timing the the injector pump.

Another thing to check is to see if any other model mahindra used that same engine/block or who the real manufacturer is did mahindra actually make the 8560 is it something else like a TYM. or who made the engine in the 8560? If so it just gives you more leads to chase.

you might give tractorpartsasap.com a call they have huge salvage yards with way more stock than they list online

Thank you for reading this thread and the advice. All solid and correct. Two shops so far have refused to turn a wrench because they cannot find a used block. And thankfully, they both don't see a value in spending so much money on just two parts. I do live near Ingalls Shipyard where there are highly trained welders that think the block can be repaired. Ironically, the mechanic I am now using used to be a Mahindra dealer. He has searched the country and Canada for a used block. Nothing yet.

Please take care of yourself and family in these trying times.

I am sorry to hear of your misfortune with your tractor, it sounds like a lubrication failure. My little tractor is built for Mahindra by TYM and powered by Kukje, though other models use other engine suppliers. Repairing the block should include careful inspection for damage.
Hopefully a few calls to Mahindra customer support will bring some solution.
Thanks for the admonition of safety and health, the best to you and your family too.
