Hello,

I am having hydraulic issues with my little Beaver. Noticed it first a few days ago when I could no longer pick the front tires up, then the lift motion was very slow/weak and now the rear is also slow. The rear lift also no longer has the "auto-stop" feature or whatever it was that made the rear lever move to the neutral position after the implement was up. Just stays in the up position now with no noise or anything...so I am thinking my hydraulic pump is shot.

I changed all the h-fluid and cleaned the filter...it was in pretty good shape and not much on it. Still no difference. Any other ideas?

How difficult is it to replace the h-pump on this tractor and where can I find a new and/or used one? Thanks for any help.

I am not a beaver owner but I would bet it is an easy swap. My Mits was about an hour job.
You have already checked the screen and oil level so that's two common problems to mark off the list. Before I bought a pump I would check your manual and see if there is a port for a pressure gauge (about $15 for a 3000psi gauge) to be installed to check the hydraulic pressure. It would be a shame to buy a new pump only to find that is not the problem.
If it does appear to be the pump, it may just be a seal, o ring or obstruction. I would tear it down and check it for obvious issues before pulling the trigger on a new one.

Darryl gives some good advice. Verify it's the pump before you go blowing a wad on a pump for a beaver.

I understand that a Sotah Mitsu pump is a very costly item.

One solution is to drive a common pump from the front crankshaft pulley.
Mitsu have a factory part that was origionally meant for a front PTO.
I purchased that part (could be fabricated) and using a u-joint drove a higher GPM pump than foctory mounted pump.

In effect I have 2 pumps on my MT180D.

I did this as I wanted faster response for my loader (plus I had the pump on hand).

Now since I plan to add power steering I can use the factory pump to drive the steering without complicated plumbing as only the steering and 3-point will share the same circuit.
Have most of the components for the steering on hand, just waiting for the last snow to melt.

Last year I loss the Hydraulic's on my 550G, the problem was the coupling on the pump had worn and was not turning the pump. I think the old pump is still in work order but has a worn tang on the pump. Purchases pump with better,
but less worn shaft and had a new coupling made at our local Area Vocational School. Tractor is up and running this spring. Don't spend money on a pump until you check to see if it is actually turning.

You might try this website for parts. Valley Power.
Also, your pump may not be shot. Here is this information from the same website.

Q: My hydraulics don’t work. What can I do?

A: Check your hydraulic fluid level. If low add more. If this doesn’t work, drain the system, remove, inspect and clean the filter. Pay particular attention to the condition of the filter and the oil. (If this step doesn’t work, we’ll want to know what you found.) Fill with fresh fluid and try again. If this doesn’t work email or call us.

Thanks for the replys folks. I had the hydraulics tested and the little tractor is putting out less than 300 psi...sounds like the pump. Quoted prices are from 600ish to 1100ish for a replacement. Jeesh. I have a call into Valley Power, thanks...any other ideas on where to shop for a pump for this thing. I don't know about putting that much money into this tractor, not even sure what it would be worth. Thanks.

Check my earlier message re; front PTO mounting.

Also any pump (with proper rotation) could be fan belt driven with a relativly simple hinged bracket and tensioner if you are handy.
Very much like pumps are mounted on snow plow pickups.
That way you could use a surplus center pump , (probably in the $50-150. range)

OUCH!! Sure sounds like it's the pump. I would recommend taking the pump off and tearing it down. It could be something as simple as an o ring gone bad. Even if it's not something that simple/cheap, if it were mine, I'd want to see the actual problem before buying a new one.

I was also quoted a scary price initially when I needed a new pump. I shopped around and ended up paying $345 (if I remember correctly).

If you want some contact numbers give me a PM.
Good luck.
