Saturday I was cutting hay and just as I finished and was about to head back to the barn I heard a popping noise that actually sounded like it was from outside the tractor and not internal. I was pressing in the clutch when this happened. My clutch pedal went to the floor and does not engage clutch. With hand I can move the pedal with ease back and forth. Prior to this I've heard a little noise on occasion (noise seems to come and go) when pressing the clutch pedal. I have not had any issues with slipping of any kind just stopped working all of a sudden.

Questions:
Is there a spring that attached to the pedal? We have two tractors (different colors)? Maybe thats what made the popping noise when it flew off.

Any ideas of the issue and is this over the head of a fairly mechanical person without any knowledge of clutches?

thanks, Bob

Trace the path of the clutch linkage looking for problems. There should be an inspection port to see the clutch. Move the petal and see what moves inside. Might have to split the tractor to fix it.
