Really glad you went to your Father, that you used the police and he is OK as are you and your wife.
My wife and I had to do this, by having to convince a gang from NY to lave my daughter's apartment and to convince them she was gone as they wanted her. That was a rough experience.
Another time I could not reach my Mother for six months and so I drove 14 hours to see if she was OK, but unannounced. She had a caregiver.
I arrived and found my Mother was dead and still in her bed, possibly a month or so. The caregiver was still there and had continued life as he did not want to believe Mother was dead. The local police, County Coroner and Mental health helped a lot. The locals were bad news as her home became a drive by viewing and gossip.
Do check on your elders as one never knows what can happen. And Adult Special Services with Police had been there a few months before and I was never told. I learned *** said everything was ok, but the house was hazard with trash and waste everywhere. It appears the caregiver broke with he work and kept trying but could not function for her or him. Wish I had known, but she is in a better place and had been since her last breath, thus some comfort! Best to all, Jim

Glad everything worked out well, these situations are hard under the best of conditions, we've had two family members deteriorate to where they knew no one.
If further problems present themselves, money spent on a local attorney may very well be of great help.

This is one of those situations that can be very difficult to handle. We have distant family, not blood related, in which the husband was not taking care of his wife. I don't know the husband nor his history but "today" he most certainly is mentally ill and maybe he has been all along. Regardless of illness he is/was a POS. "Adult Services" were brought it to check on the couple especially the wife but these idiots would make an appointment before showing up which allowed the mess to get cleaned up. It was a horrible situation that eventually got solved. The part of the family closest to the situation should have video taped the house and what was going on but they did not.
Unraveling a married couple where abuse is ongoing can be difficult especially when they are elderly and the abuse can be viewed as being related to old age.
I am very happy to hear that the OP was able to get his father out of the situation. :thumbsup:
