I was thinking about getting a spare front rim for my 7610s ( 2wd ) tractor. It has 10.00-16 tires, and calls for a 8-16 rim.
My local CNH dealer has some 8-16 rims in stock for 125$ but says his book lists a different 8-16 rim for my tractor.. for 250$.. but he said he didn't know what the differences were.

Any CNH parts guys here? I don't want to buy the 250$ rim if the 125$ rim will work.. and i don't want to buy the 125$ rim to take it home to 'eyeball' it up.. just to ahve to make a 90 minute round trip to return it... Same obvious reasons for pulling a tire (heavy) from my machine and manhandling it into the truck for a trip just to match it up.

Anyone got the skinny? Is it a difference on the dishing?

Chris, I can't help you with the dish specs but are you being so mean to your 7610s that you need a spare rim? I have put my tractors thru a lot and bent the front rim on the FWA TN and have no problems with it. It would take one heck of an accident to warrant needing a new rim and if you did find yourself in that situation I would worry about it then as that is a lot of money for a spare rim on a tractor that most likely will never need it.

I would wonder though if it is the same size as the older 7610. If so you might call up some tractor boneyards and see if they have one as you will save a lot of money.

Ok, here's what i found. i went to the dealer and measured the rim they had in stock, ( the 125$ one.. which they don't list for the 7610s by the way... the one for the 7610s is 250$... ) from one side of the dish to the rim edge it was 4" and on the other side tot he edge it was 5.5" according to the parts guy.

I measured mine today when I got home, and one side is 5.5" and the other side is 3 7/8 " If the parts guy was 1/8" off eyeballing it... it looks like it is the same rim. According to the computer, both the rims will fit the same hub.. so the bolt pattern is good.. etc. For all I can tell.. it is the same rim.. the only difference I can find is that my rims have an extra set of holes inbetween the lug holes. They are smaller and don't fit the bolt pattern.. not sure if they are for another application.. etc. The 125$ rim does not have these other holes.. but otherwise looks similar.

It's not that I'm beating up rims.. it's that I'm getting some tire destruction. Lately I've been finding more sticks, and while greasing the tractor I notice a new gouge or chunk missing out of a tire each time.

I got lucky and my flat was very near the barn this time.. but if I get a flat again.. say .. on the road.. or out in the field... it may not be feasable for me to get a ride home.. get tools, go back to tractor, jack and crib, remove rim head to tire store and hope it can be fixed while i wait.. then head back reinstall.. drop truck off at home, then get a ride back to tractor.. etc.

My flat at my yard kast friday ate a few hours of my day between removal, repair, and reinstall.. then breaking a stud and having to get that replaced.. etc.

If I had a spare rim with one of my old tires on it.. I'd have some insurance... I could cut out a couple hours on the repair time.

I've got a spare rim for my 2n, and a spare set of rims/tires that will either fit my NAA or my 660. ugly.. but they hold air.

I wish i had a tractor bone yard around. I called all the dealers and asked if anyone had any used rims.. mounted or otherwise, in that size range.. and nada..

That makes sense, still seems kind of high on the price though for a new rim. I bought a rim that size but for a JD running gear under a 9x18 kicker rack and it was between $50 and $80 (can't remember for sure but those numbers keep sticking in my head. My NH dealer has quite a few shortline part companies they can order from that make parts like weights, rims and some common tractor and equipment parts for less then what NH wants.

Do you get the Fastline magazine? If so look in there for boneyards. I know the Northeast edition has a lot of ads for tractor boneyards as well as aftermarket dealers.

If I was in your shoes and was going to buy a rim for a spare I would get the cheapest rim. If there is some difference I doubt it will be much as you say the dishing is very close. And you can always replace the tire once you repair the original.

Agri-Supply has some rims for good prices also. I saw ones that were only $36, 10" wide by 16", and 16.5"

My only issue with mail order, or a boneyard, is my same issue with CNH.. the inability for a parts person to tell me if it will bolt up and be similar.. etc.

I'll see what i find out today.

Probably a difference in the thickness of the dish material. Cheaper rims are usually for lighter duty/lower weight applications. With that said, for use as a spare, they will work, and perform just fine. If it was me, I would buy the cheap one, and use it when necessary, but not leave it on the unit. I would just utilize it until I could get the right tire fixed.

The downside to this theory is that you could possibly ruin the lighter rim during use. I would gamble. If you do ruin it, you are only out $125, and I am willing to bet that you never know the difference.

My $0.02, for what it is worth.

I did go and look at the 125$ rim. If the metal is thinner.. then it is something i can't "see".. it woul dbe something i need to 'mic'.. as it looked like virtually the same rim.. except for the extra holes between the lug holes tha mine has...

Havn't made up my mind yet.. still thinking on the issue.. before I plunk down money...

critical specs for 'will fit' rims from the aftermarket.
Rim width
Rim diameter
Center offset
Pilot (center) hole diameter
Lug circle diameter
Lug hole diameter
Chamfered or plain lug holes
Center material thickness

Answer these questions and buy from afar with confidence. You are really overthinking this by a wide margin.

Center offset is the only issue I have not resolved 100%. Center material thicknbess has not been mic'ed.. but eyeball says 'same'.

The rest are 'good'. hubv hole, lug pattern and size, chamfer, width / diametrer.
