Hello fellers,
I am in need or rather one of my tractors is in need of a replacement engine.
Would like to keep it original by putting a D361 (which is what it currently has) or a D407. The current block is damaged and would be cost prohibitive to fix unless a well equipped shop would have pitty and compassion on me and offer to help while cutting me some slack on costs.
It would be really nice to find a good sound engine that is complete and be able to just bolt it up. Some others have suggested I use a 5.9 Cummins. While I do like those engines, I'd like to keep this 806 as close to original as possible.
There's an 856 with a D407 not too far away from me at a dealer, but that tractor is in worse shape than mine and they want $7,500.
:
They said that the engine runs, but the tractor looks awful and looks to be rigged in several ways.
The current block is the later style that has a casting code ending in C1. Ideally I'd want a block with a matching code or one that ends in C2, C3, etc. These styles have the dipstick and oil fill tubes combined as one, where the earlier styles have two seperate tubes and the latter is what I DO NOT WANT.
If anyone knows of a complete and running D361 or D407 in Texas that's for sale, please let me know.
